watched about half the previous 'new' series. just seems less interesting than in the nineties. i don't think it has necessarily got worse, rather that the quality of tv dramas around it has got better.

I've just made a discovery (pun intended) regarding Wheeler Dealers. While it will continue later this year with a 14th series, the absolute genius of Edd China will not be involved! He will be replaced by a guy named Ant Anstead who I know nothing about. I am still looking forward to the new series and it will be interesting to see how the new lad gets on, but he has some seriously big shoes to fill! www.discoveryuk.com/press-release-210317/

ant anstead was in 'for the love of cars' with philip glennister. basically, glennister would ponce around while anstead and his team restored a car to its former glory. he was alright on that. never seen 'wheeler dealers' (would have assumed it was beamed live from redknapp towers), so dunno about the size of the shoes...

One such piece of brilliance from Edd China was to take a beaten up, black 1967 Mustang Fastback and restoring it to the classic 'Bullitt' colour: The guy pictured with the finished car is co-presenter Mike Brewer, he buys the cars for Edd (picture below) to restore. He really is as good as it gets when it comes to restoring cars.

It's also worth pointing out that they work on a fairly tight budget, so any restoration they do does not involve massive amounts of money, often using used and/or reconditioned parts sourced online instead of buying brand new. I'd really like to see him given a blank cheque book and really go to town on a restoration, now that would make for decent viewing!
As I've already said - this new guy really does have his work cut out replacing Edd China.

China posted the following announcement regarding new programme makers 'Velocity' on his YouTube channel: Unfortunately, on Velocity’s first attempt at producing the show they found Wheeler Dealers “too difficult to make”, “at least in its current format.”
In particular, the detailed and in depth coverage of my fixes in the workshop; what I consider to be the backbone and USP of the programme, are something Velocity feel should be reduced. The workshop jobs are certainly the hardest part of the show to make and reducing their substance and role in the show will save the production considerable time, effort and therefore money.
However, this new direction is not something I am comfortable with as I feel the corners I was being asked to cut compromised the quality of my work and would erode my integrity as well as that of the show, so I have come to the conclusion that my only option is to let Velocity get on with it, without me."--------------------------------- The decision makers clearly have absolutely no respect for the loyal fans who have watched this show for the last 15 years. I'll give the new guy the chance to impress, but right now I can't help feeling that the new people in charge of the show have flipped it on its head - taking something that was fixed and breaking it. f***ing Yanks.

I was trying to remember the name of that show, imho a much better programme than wheeler dealers and thats not taking anything away from Ed China. I've never seen that programme, Ceef, but I've watched wheeler dealers a lot over the years and this change concerns me. My reservations are not as much due to Edd China leaving, they're more to do with why he left. The new programme makers are diluting the very thing that made the programme watchable in the first place and that's a seriously poor decision. This passage taken from an article I found sums up just why I prefer Wheeler Dealers to the other restoration programmes out there: "Edd was the antithesis of the usual car-reality-show mechanic: where most shows tended to have caricatures of loud, arrogant, tattooed meatheads yelling at everyone about how this ‘69 GTO had better [bleeping] be ready by tomorrow or heads will roll, Edd’s a calm, wildly capable, good-natured guy who had respect for all kinds of cars and was someone you’d actually like to work with.
Plus, there’s almost never shots of him grinding down chunks of metal just to get more sparks on camera."Perfectly put. Here's a link to the article it was taken from: jalopnik.com/edd-china-is-leaving-wheeler-dealers-because-velocity-w-1793498487

Just watched all 35 episodes of the original Cold Feet boxed set (series 1-5). - Not all at once - over about 4 weeks)
Brilliant casting, underplayed and great use of Manchester as a backdrop.
Still very funny and poignant 15 years on. Enjoyed the new series last year and another 6/7 episodes coming up later this year.

doesn't do these by half, does he? You're not kidding, mate. Indeed, Perry McCarthy - the original Stig - was once asked who was the best driver of the three and he said Hammond was the best of them, no doubt his fearlessness is a major factor in that ability. It sounds like he's been very, very lucky - I very much doubt that it will slow him down, though. Best wishes to him for a speedy recovery.

- although Mr Clarkson told the Sun newspaper that Mr Hammond had "hurt himself quite badly".
