Yeah the press release (if I remember right) describes him as a RWB which puts him firmly in the same spot as MSH and recent recruit Kyle Noyle, both of whom strike me as being pretty good at that spot. So yeah it's a head scratcher - although didn't Noyle play a pre-season friendly at CB?
Look, the game has changed and moved on since the days of (e.g.) Mike Flynn who, in spite of his many admirable qualities was not really a ball playing CB - which seems to be part of the requirements nowadays. Maybe the 6ft 2 or 3 lower league Clogger CB is a thing of the past... I dunno...
As for the left footed CB - if it's obvious to us then I think we can take it to the bank that it's obvious to DC and therefore he is entitled to a presumption that either a) he is on it and has irons in the fire or b) he is satisfied that Horsfall, Wright and Byrne can cover that aspect - after all St Jim Gannon and St Mike Flynn were both right footers and that seemed to work quite well....
As for the trend of signing players with a history of injuries - well I'm sure DC and co will be aware of this risk and are confident that they can manage the risk or structure deals so that the risk to the club of having a bunch of "sick-note" type players can be mitigated. Maybe these are topics to be brought up at the fans forum - so we know where the club stands.

Potentially fantastic signing. He stood out for Salford last term.

Potentially fantastic signing. He stood out for Salford last term. Agreed, Maccy, that could turn out to be a cracking piece of business. Interestingly/boringly (delete where applicable!), when FIFA introduced the 'create a club' feature the season before last to allow fans of clubs not in the game to finally have their clubs in the game, I obviously created County to play in Manager Career mode, and he was my first major signing - needless to say he was my main man for a good few seasons!

Let's hope that's a good omen, Gazzio Ranieri!

So what's that going to mean for Macca? Is Richardson a contingency signing in case he gets another injury? If so, we've got Knoyle, so why are we overloading in that position when, as you say, AH, we need a left footed defender more? I don't get this one at all. Looking at the heavy schedule for August and competing in 2 cups I think we are going to get more injuries so I guess we need cover.

Big expectations for Barry to do the job.

He got off to a good start yesterday. Busy, buzzing performance that bodes well.

He's a great prospect, too. Looked comfortably at ease during his two most recent cameo appearances in particular - and really should have had a successful assist after setting up Paddy so well on Friday night.

So a close read of the match report for the friendly with PNE, and watching the highlights courtesy of PNE, reveals that Ibou Touray played the left CH position (and also captained).
So to challenge my assumption that he's too short to play CH (I think he's 5ft 9 or 10, so I guess he's in Ronnie Wallwork territory with that height), how did he play and was I just being a bit height-ist about him as a CH?
Is he therefore a) the extra CH that I've been wanting and b) also the Left Footed CH into the bargain?
What do you lot think?

I've just clicked that link, it seems County are still stuck in footballing purgatory and Halifax are still yet to take that 90th minute corner, there's gonna be some serious injury time here, folks - time-wasting b******s!
