Not too early to start this, following a post on Facebook by Chris Hussey that he is moving on...

Well best of luck to him. I would have kept him on but I respect his reasons and choice.

Well best of luck to him. I would have kept him on but I respect his reasons and choice. I second that, mate. It's a shame, but good luck to him wherever the future takes him.

Thirded - he's been a good, solid pro.

That sounds very encouraging and keeps the established squad very much together.
A shame to lose Hussey and Ryan Johnson.

Especially good news that Ben's appearances have triggered an automatic extension, and that Byrne has been offered terms. Grateful thanks to Hussey for this season's efforts, as well as to Johnson who will forever be remembered as a title-winner, and all the best to both of them.

Agreed, both.
It's a shame about Hussey and Johnson, but Ben has earned that extension and then some.
It's just a shame that his extension doesn't get him a crack at League One next season, as he thoroughly deserves that.

Not in the list is forward Daniel Okwute, who we signed until 2024 with an option beyond. He was sent out to Finn Harps in February along with fellow teenager Ellis Farrar (CB). Only mentioning as I think he was originally on the First Team listings.

I was assuming that those two, together with other young members of the squad - Keane Barugh and Ashton Mee - would be continuing, although it is a tad odd that Cody Johnson is listed and they are not.

Hmmm, losing both Hussey and Johnson means that (unless I;m missing something) we have no naturally left-sided CH.... unless maybe DC is looking for one.
I was half expecting a few more to go - I wondered if Barclay might be offered the chance to go to Carlisle, where he's obviously rated, rather than having him at EP where he's behind Noyle and MSH for Right Back and Byrne (assuming he signs) and Lewis and Wright. Who knows he may yet be able to make that move and, if he does, then good luck to him.
I expect that a couple more departures may yet arise because the retained list gives us 23 players and I suspect if DC wants to bring some in then some will have to go the clear room.
That said, assuming we don't get so many injuries next term (which is a big if), I reckon we will be capable of flying fairly high. Fun Fact: (and I think I've posted this before) from the first 11 games we got 9 points: that means over the next 35 we got 70 points and there were a couple of poor runs in that stretch. That averages out to 92 points over a hypothetical season which is championship form. Fingers crossed.

Of those players under contract I would expect to see the following allowed to move on:
Scott Quigley Ollie Crankshaw Ben Barclay (if Carlisle want him I think we should be looking for a transfer fee) Ethan Ross
And possibly
Paddy Madden Antoni Sarcevic Connor Evans

I would expect to see Quigs and Crankshaw move on or be loaned out. Barclay should stay and provide some more competition for places if Carlisle don't want him. Ross will probably get loaned out. Not sure why we need Bobby Jones if not. Evans did well at Notts County and when he came back to County so deserves to stay. He just needs to be given a chance.
Sorry to see Chris and Ryan leaving. I am not sure if Chris is retiring bit wish them both a good future.

That averages out to 92 points over a hypothetical season which is championship form. Fingers crossed. Yup, the left side of defence needs some recruitment action. We have Pye, who played both central defence and left back on loan at Gateshead in the NL, and Rydel. I believe they're 20 and 22 respectively. The September arrival of Hussey meant we at last had an 'all-round' defender to do what we hadn't seen in that position since JJ under JG. Johnson, very much a CB, papered over the earlier recruitment mess (Barclay in on a 3-year and put out of position, Fryers etc.) but Kitching got the nod to start last season... perhaps for that very reason of wanting a more all-round player? Byrne was fine wherever he played, but a left-footer balances the side better for sure. If he's continued to progress, an obvious shout (from seeing him during our non-league days) would be Kyle Cameron. He played CB, LB and LWB at Torquay and I remember posting about his threat from set-pieces before the 20/21 opener. Considering how Horsfall got goals for Northampton, and we were used to Palmer's threat, it's been disappointing to see we couldn't score more from our CBs this season. Anyway, Cameron ultimately moved to Notts, taking them up as captain, and I believe he's out of contract this summer. He gets goals, should be entering some of his prime years and is not afraid to wear a mullet, which is unsurprisingly a tick box on my fantasy recruitment spreadsheet.

Billy Sharpe leaving Sheff Utd. I think he could do a job or two for County if he was interested. Not too far for him to move unless he crosses town to Wednesday ?
