County receive League Two's other County, by way of our second Easter fixture - in the hope of breaking the current run of home draws and doing another 'double'.
Post all the usual malarkey here...

I remember playing them many years ago on a Friday night and winning easily.

Early 1988, Duds... 5-1 win?
It was around the time I started going to EP - and we weren't any great shakes at the time, but Newport were truly dreadful. They ended up finishing bottom of the League by a distance, and the old club folded during its first Conference campaign. Terribly sad for a team that had been playing in Europe not so long before.

Sounds about the right time. I think I was a couple of seasons into my county life then.
I remember them folding. In those days it seemed almost terminal.

We really need to win this, nothing else will do at this stage of the season now.
Pitch looks great considering the rain.

Get in, Kyle - what a header! Fantastic cross from Hippo too, a superb ball in from the right.

This referee is absolute shite. Wootton getting manhandled on the touchline right in front of him and he allows play to continue, he's either an idiot or he's deliberately letting things slide against us.

Brilliant second for Kyle with a neat turn and shot just before half-time!

The fourth goal that moves us up from the playoffs alongside the goal for Cheltenham that sees Ipswich concede for the first time in 9 games. Maybe I do believe in miracles…

County currently into the automatic places on goal difference! Knoyle bagging the fourth goal after being picked out by an excellent ball from Paddy.

A shame Northampton found a late winner. All bets still on.
Up the Mighty County.

That was pretty ruthless from us today and it was much-needed as we don't know if GD etc. will come into play.
Newport didn't offer much, with most of their biggest moments coming from our passing mistakes at the back rather than good play. But it's not hard to imagine they could have made things difficult were it not for two well-timed 1st half goals ruining any plan they had to spoil matters.
The opener was a beauty of a team goal, with the ball played at pace and players moving well - a goal which would fit right in with the highest levels of the game. The second wasn't so much about its quality (though nothing wrong there!) but more about sending Newport in without the option to 'keep it 1-0 and get something off a set piece'.
In the second half we weathered them having some possession and territory, with Hinchliffe sharp out to smother a decent moment for them. Rydel got his second assist of the game, crossing in from the left. When Collar couldn't reach it, it made its way to the far post where Stretton finished confidently. Into the final minutes we were still pushing and another attack on the left saw the ball worked to Madden and he used the space and time he had to square across the goal to Knoyle for a deserved fourth.
Workrate and battling present, and quality moments were finished off well. Into 3rd we go. Good job, DC and the boys.

Excellent summary, H and well said - congrats to DC, his staff and players for an excellent afternoon's work!
