I saw a similar thread on YB and thought it would be interesting to see who people here came up with. If you could bring one player back to County to give our season the boost it needs, who would it be and why.
I'll start with Big Kev. Why? Because he would not only lead from the front and get us a shed load of goals, he'd also be a massive presence when defending set-pieces.
He's not only my favourite County player of all time, he's my favourite footballer of all time - bar none.

County had a history of having decent players but never all playing in the same team. I just about saw Ken Fogarty play but also Terry Park who came back to the club, Bill Williams obviously as well as Dean Emerson. For me it would be Mick Quinn rather than Kevin Francis for the only reason that Francis played in a decent side and had players like Chris Beaumont providing the ammunition whereas Quinn didn't and his reputation for persistence, sheer bullish aggression and no little skill got him a lot of goals wherever he played including seasons in the old first division and premier league with Portsmouth and Coventry.

Eeeerm, let me think ..............................................
Probably ............ Len White
Followed by Matt Woods, Eddie Stuart, Billy Haydock, Ken Mulhearn. Jim Fryatt, Bill Atkins, Len Allchurch, Johnny Price. Alan Ogley, Albert Quixhall, Alex Young.
All of a very past age, including me.

Just out of sheer fan-girly adulation, I would also have to find a place for Luis Cavaco... with compatriot Kiko on the bench to make that all-important impact on a wintry Tuesday night in Doncaster!

Also had a player called David Shallcross (came from City I believe). Never missed a penalty !
Class on a stick.

Well since KK has already been nominated, hows about George Best? He only played I think 3 times for us.
It would have been interesting to see him play more. The attendances certainly went through the roof, not that we have that problem now.

My grandad always raved about Jack Connor, and said he was a real up and at 'em, all elbows forward.
I'm sure I remember him saying that he chatted to him once or twice, when he was out at the post office picking up his pension back in the 90s, so if not Kev, I'd like to bring back Jack Connor just to see him for myself.
As an aside, I was listening to the dark days podcasts recently, and they talked about when his grandson Joe came to the club to help keep us in the National League, what a fantastic story that was.
I have never seen a player lift the spirits of the club more than he did that season, it was almost as if he was sent by his Grandad to help us out when we really needed it. One of the few bright spots during an otherwise horrible time.
I wonder what Joe's doing now?

Agreed, Gazz. Joe was a good guy, as well as a decent player in a struggling side. And his attitude was second to none.
Last heard of as a player with Ashton United, but that was a few years back. He has been spotted at some of our home matches (possibly as a guest of the club) in more recent times.

As Maccy said, Joe went on to play for Ashton Utd and I believe he ended his career at Droylsden in a side with his (I believe) cousin. He remained as fit as a fiddle until the end of his career. At Ashton I think he was one of two players to pass the bleep test returning from summer (other being Mark Lees). I think one too many hits on the old ankle might have taken their toll though!
During that particular post-County time he was working away from football in a 'normal' job but also helping to coach groups of youngsters (including Mini-Herm) every week as part of a little home-ed community we were all in at the time.
He's lived with his family in the States for some years now and from what Mrs Herm says it looks like they're all happy and healthy. His dad is also lovely and works with the kids. A County family the Club should look after, for sure.
