Humiliated in Australia in the Ashes and One Day Series and again in the T20 World Cup in Bangladesh.
Not good.

Dear Rog,
The media loves us being sh*t. What else would they write about? So we're keeping our classy journalists busy, more of the same in Brazil this Summer I say!
Yours,
A.Liar, Wapping.

I could easily see the Dutch beating England in Brazil, but losing to them in Bangladesh takes the biscuit.
I'd reinstate KP if I was involved, but James Whittaker & Co obviously won't.
Long time to recover and meanwhile, as you say, gazza, the press are loving it.

We've seen a dramatic decline in the state of our national team, Rog, and it's baffling.

I think the strength of our national team was more baffling. We've been rubbish throughout my entire lifetime, and I could never quite get used to watching England dominate cricket matches.
Must be time to give Ramprakash another go...

The joking aside though, his failure to realise his massive potential at test level was as much a mystery as our recent nosedive in form. Always seemed to do well against the Aussies though.

A most consistent batsman in the First Class game. A run machine. Always there or thereabouts at the top of averages every season.
Not bad in the One Dayers either.

That's why I have never understood why he didn't tear up the test scene, ability-wise he had it all, maybe the pressure from the media and our being incredibly rubbish put far too much pressure on him to deliver?

I think maybe it's time we started thinking outside the ECB box and actually fielded a team of Brits, or is that far too left-field?

I was on Radio 5's cricket phone in on Monday night. I commented that it was appropriate that it would be 'bin day' the next morning as we are playing rubbish at the moment.
Got a laugh from Steve a Harmison and the presenter. I also said after winning a series our team should be played Public Enemy's Don't Believe The Hype.

Good banter there, collinge.
Don't believe the hype is exactly right.
After the Ashes in the summer England thought they could just roll up in Oz and win. We prepared bady and assumed we'd knock them over easily. We were stupid to think that the Aussies wouldn't go back, regroup and be totally focused on wiping the arrogant smirks from the England faces. We also totally (and stupidly) underestimated Darren Lehman and his ability to galvanise the team.
Complacent in the extreme. And Cook, Broad and Giles were in the thick of it. The arrogance continues in blaming KP on the defeat because of his bad influence in the dressing room. Pathetic.
We definitely need someone from outside to come in who can give them all a rocket up their jacksies. Giles is way too pally with them all to do that.
I'm not so bothered about the T20 as that is a bit of a lottery anyway. We've got bigger things to worry about than that.
I'd get Moody in - but he'll only come if he's given a free reign, which is probably unlikely.
Sadly, I think it's a long way back to the top.

Truth is, Eps, the Aussies were fighting their way back last Summer, and only some typically bad English weather prevented that series from being much, much closer. I saw that Winter hammering coming while we were still playing out the Summer Ashes, and I have no idea how anyone expected us to even retain the Urn down under, never mind win it outright.
Good shout on the T20 game and bringing Moody in, and I totally agree on Giles. It seems like the old pals act is making an unwelcome return to the England set up. To make KP the scapegoat is bloody ridiculous, he was a major factor in our storm up the rankings. Some of them have seriously short memories.
There are some dark days ahead.
