Most of us will back him. But I guess I am not the only one still scratching his or head, wondering why we have replaced possibly the most successful manager in our 128 year history with a manager who has never managed beyond U23?

www.stockportcounty.com/rusk-mcghee-and-conlon-form-new-management-team/Simon 'Comical Ali' Wilson squirming about. It was all a whirlwind, what with Rusk (totally unknown here) already having his name out there on a forum within a day! At Peterborough together, right? Feb. last year, Rusk was said in the press to have resigned Brighton U23s to take over Cambridge Utd. A few days later Wilson got DoF here and Rusk had a 'change of heart' so ended up not going to Cambridge. Possibly all a coincidence, of course.

Anyway, who the hell inherits a side like this in January and not a despairing mess at the bottom of the table? Yup, no-one. And then a 3.5 year deal having not managed at the level, removing someone who was so ob iously not in their plans, no matter how hard they rey to pretend otherwise. Painfully sh*t PR nonsense on the scale of the government cr*p we get every day.
All that said, best wishes.

"Simon Wilson, Director of Football, said:
As fans might expect we were inundated with interest in the role, (WERE YOU f***, IT WAS ALWAYS GOING TO BE RUSK - DO YOU REALLY THINK WE'RE THAT f***ing STUPID?) from a variety of backgrounds, from highly experienced been-there-done-it types, to fresh thinking emerging profiles.
“Simon is a young talent, very highly regarded in the industry and supported by Mark and Dave, we think we have found the best of all worlds...."
Jim Gannon says: 'Et Tu Brute?"
The sooner you're gone from my club, the better, you f***ing rat.

Possibly, since in March last year Jim was given an extension to his contract, an extension that has presumably had to be paid up by Stott. Nobody is as disappointed as me at Jim Gannon's dismissal but I suspect that the writing has been on the wall for some weeks. I recall pointing that out three weeks ago that Jim's demeanour suggested something was amiss and had done for a few weeks. If one was to read between the lines I would suggest that there has been a difference of opinion about the role of Director of Football. Unfortunately, he who pays the piper and all that.

This didn't happen overnight did it.......and you can draw your own conclusions from that. Welcome Simon Rusk.

Thoroughly underwhelming and stinks of jobs for the boys.
3 and a half years? For a bloke who has never been a football manager before?
What a joke.
He’s got a lot of work to do and a lot of credit to build before I will even recognise him as manager of Stockport County.
You can earn your welcome from me, Simon. You can also go and make your own luck because I won’t be wishing you any.

First time I've seen and heard Wilson speak and I must admit he has an extremely punchable face. In Ireland we have an expression for someone who is a sly fox/ rogue-ish type of character,Wilson in my mind is a "cute hoor"

I think we're in the 'world of the Salfords' now (don't spit at me) - Alexander was got rid of when unbeaten in the league and had signed a 4 year deal in 2018, replaced by... a mate to take on what had been gifted to him? Obv. Alexander had pedigree in full men's management for such a lengthy contract but if we're able to just pay off contracts, maybe they have little meaning in 'modern football'?
There's a 'stepping stone' feel to our appointment, which is about as far as you can get from the man who was in place. Given SW was discussing things with MS 7/8 months prior to doing his first DoF interview after takeover, and the off-pitch team being put together, I seriously doubt the vision was ever to keep JG - just to try not to appear to want him out.

Most of us will back him. But I guess I am not the only one still scratching his or head, wondering why we have replaced possibly the most successful manager in our 128 year history with a manager who has never managed beyond U23? I for one will back him, he's the manager of my team. There are reasons why Jim was relieved of his duties, unless of course we are to assume that Stott got up one morning and decided that he'd cheer himself up with a good sacking which doesn't seem very likely, particularly since he'd extended Jim's contract in March. So, back in March Stott and his fellow Directors decided that Jim as the man to take the club forward and build on his recent success. At which point, the season is suspended, not to restart until late in the year. In other words no football and reduced contact between all the clubs employees. Since none of us will ever know exactly what happened the rest is pure speculation but we can take a punt based on what we've seen in the past. A large part of Jim's managerial success has been achieved at non-league clubs, including County and Northwich Vics. I can't comment on Northwich beyond suggesting that the situation there was probably similar to the one at County, a relatively small club with limited finances and needing someone to fulfil a number of roles in the same way that Jim did for us. Not only coaching the first team, but chipping in with the juniors too, everything from scouting to planning away trips. In other words, a role absolutely central to the way the club was run as a non-league outfit struggling to make ends meet and I imagine he thrived on it. The new owner has grander plans. If this club is going to compete at Championship level then it will need a Championship level management structure and since Stott can clearly afford it, he's imposed it right from the off and why wouldn't he? I can well imagine that Jim, a man who has been used to being the centre of attention at the club has felt as though he's had his nose put out of joint, that suddenly, instead of being the one everyone turns to for answers he's merely part of a larger management team who is expected to play a far more narrow role. As a result it seems reasonable to suggest a clash of personalities, probably one that got worse as the season got under way and let's be honest, Jim has form in that direction since his periods in charge at both Port Vale and Motherwell ended acrimoniously. If that's the case, then there was only ever going to be one winner and the only thing that surprises is that anyone would be surprised by that. I can well understand how Jim's recent comments about new players not taking the culture of the club to heart, his culture actually, after the recent debacle at Hartlepool might have been taken as a swipe at the Director of Football. It does after all it seem safe to assume that Wilson played a prominent role in the acquisition of Rooney. I don't know about anyone else but it certainly struck me at the time that that is what it was. Maybe there has been some truth in the rumour of clashes with players and if that's the case then one shouldn't be surprised. I've seen an interview with Gary Dicker for example in which Dicker was at once complimentary of Jim's knowledge of the game and less than complimentary of his man management skills. In fact, in certain circumstances what Dicker reports Jim's comments to have been could be construed as bullying in the modern workplace. Personally, I wouldn't be surprised to find Jim back in non - league management and best of luck to both Jim and the club with an owner who can afford it. There's plenty of local clubs for whom such a huge personality with an equal appetite for work would be a massive boost but lets not pretend that such a parochial outlook is going to get the club into the Championship because it isn't.

Jim will always be a legend for his time as a player and a manager with us. But he is (for) now a peer of our rich and great history. I do hope that Simon Rusk has got more tactical nous than his ‘we will work hard’ answer in the interview and I wish him and the team (not his team but Simon Wilson/Mark Stott’s management team) all the best amd obviously hope they are successful

A large part of Jim's managerial success has been achieved at non-league clubs, including County and Northwich Vics. The great escape? Nine in a row? Missing out on the playoffs by a whisker the season after the great escape? Going up at Wembley in the playoffs the season after? Then admin cut short his progress. Not to mention the talent he nurtured to go on to excellent careers elsewhere. Sorry, Yorks, but you've got that wrong.

As much as i'm still royally annoyed that Jim's not around I find it hard to dislike someone I don't know, with that in mind i'd like to say "Welcome to Stockport Simon". He's got such a hard job trying to get the fans on board with him. We all love Stockport County and that won't change but at lot of fans aren't happy or ar*ed about the board or their money right now and would rather we be skint with Jim in the dug out that have financial security and have Simon there.
I'll wish you good luck because I love County and want to see the team do well on the pitch and get back to playing league football, but it's like splitting up with your missus of 5 years and seeing her walking around the week later with a new fella!! I'm still not over the break up and time will be the healer. Let's just hope she doesn't turn into a sl*g and get a new fella every 6 months now!!
