Not sure if there are any other squash players/followers out there in Heaven, but Britain now has two individual world champions - after Laura Massaro won the Women's Championship in Malaysia. Nick Matthew won the Men's equivalent back in November. Exceptional achievements by both, given the strength in depth of other playing nations and the paltry funding available to support players here.

I've never played it, never watched it and never been into it, but any British champion in any sport is worthy of applause*. Well done to both. * Except Equestrian.

I reached the final of a big championship once, the place was packed, great atmosphere and the crowd served up a right racquet.

Played a couple of times too much short running and changing direction to me. I did see That he had won but not even a mention anywhere if her!

i've only played a couple of times as well. if you play against somebody who knows what they're doing, they just stand still while you run around like your hair is on fire...
excellent achievement though for both...

Were not good enough at the 'big sports' to be choosy with what we do well in!

Radio 5 Live have gone some way towards publicising Laura's win, with an interview this lunchtime.
Delighted for her. She hails from the North West (Preston), and is as unaffected by the trappings of sporting fame as it's possible to be. She played a season for my Club, as 'resident professional', and always took time to chat with, and offer advice to, the wider membership - rather than simply playing her matches, picking up an appearance fee and heading straight for the door.
