His contribution to the Istanbul champions League win must not be underestimated, because his was a stricter regime, in terms of training and nutrition that followed the Roy Evans era.
The 'spice boy' Liverpool were good, very good but they weren't 'European trophy good'- Houllier changed all that and laid the strong foundations that enabled Benitez to etch himself into Liverpool folklore.
A very sad loss.
RIP

A true gentleman who always kept his powder dry in interviews.
Gone too soon. RIP Gerard

RIP Monsieur Houllier.
Not a Liverpool fan but he was a fantastic manager and always came across well.

bon nuit gerard. an affinity with the city of liverpool long before arriving as joint manager with roy evans. won the 'mickey mouse treble', but it was only in the rarified air of mockery between liverpool and man utd fans that it can really be called that - fans of the other big clubs may say it, but they'd kill for that kind of season.
