It's gone, I'm afraid, gents - but re-started on a new thread, if you would care to hop over there...

Well, after emerging from the initial mortification of seeing our collective two months' effort disappear without trace - and, having corresponded with Gazz for a proper technical insight, neither he nor I can understand how it happened - what I am minded to do is try over the coming weeks to piece back together the old contents, albeit by letter rather than the order in which they were posted. Although all the tunes are accessible away from CH, they are 'ours' in the sense that they chose them - and for a variety of reasons personal to us. Obviously, what we will lose are the comments with which we introduced our choices - but what we regain is a set of goodies in which to dip at will. A bit, really, like the remaking of Smile, after some of Brian Wilson's master tapes went missing... On a separate, locked thread, I have put together what one of these letter-threads might look like (possibly in a separate 'Heavenly Jukebox' section on the forum?). I started with the four-song-strong 'Z' for obvious reasons! Let me know on here what you think, guys - and if it is something you feel is worth doing, I shall work on it over the coming weeks.

It's a noble offer but, from a personal point of view, the index is enough reference material for me.
Those who can be bothered might like to do their own personal playlist selection of, say, 8 videos from the original incarnation.

agree with archie. A fantastic offer, macc, but 2000 songs is a lot of work when we have the index.
Keeping on top of the index is already a huge and greatly appreciated commitment.
I like archie’s idea of selecting a personal playlist to share. Maybe it can’t be songs you chose (as far as you can remember)? Or just a selection of your favourite new discoveries?

I'm fine with that suggestion, gents. Whilst I'd have been happy to restored all the tracks, it certainly would have been a longish-term project - and I'd have really been questioning my sanity if there was little genuine demand or need. I've just had a go with an eight-song playlist on the now-converted Z-thread. All songs selected by others, and listed alphabetically by acts - but a mixture of the old and new, the familiar and the not-so... Feel free to choose according to your own criteria - but stick to eight as a limit, challenging though that is!

Just to supplement the 'Favourites' thread a little, I have added in five milestone tracks there that I remember to have been the first, 10th, 100th, 1,000th and 2,000th to be posted within the original set.

Have had an idea of supplementing the 'Favourites' thread a little more with one song for each of our very most popular artistes from the original jukebox - led by The Beatles, followed by Bowie and the like. If you have special favourites by the oft-chosen ones, please let me know on here - relying on exile, so far as GBV concerned! - unless, of course, you are happy to trust my judgement...

Ah - thanks, exile. I have played every single one of 'em (not that it took too long!), and liked that one the best.

yes, they typically don't hang around for too long. their brilliant 'bee thousand' album, which features your selection, is 20 songs in 30 minutes. i don't have attention deficit disorder, but they'd probably be a good choice if i did.
