Squash half-term report... The North West Counties League takes a winter break now, which may be extended a tad depending on the Covid situation in January. But a tremendous season to date for New Mills, who occupy one of the promotion places behind leaders Macclesfield. All about the team, of course (matches feature five players per side), although am personally chuffed - and not a little surprised - to have won 10 of my 11 individual tussles on court thus far. Talking 18 enforced months off from the sport during the pandemic seems to have worked quite well!  |

Promotion mission #1 achieved!  New Mills guaranteed themselves second place in the final match of the season yesterday evening, to go up with Crewe - who did us a favour by beating a third set of rivals from Macc. Fantastic campaign for the team, who conceded fewer points against than any other in the division - and for me personally, having lost just once in my 22 individual matches... as well as after effectively retiring from the sport during the pandemic! Celebratory summer squash visit to Spain now in the offing. I'll be holidaying with, amongst others, Lennie's brother-in-law! What could possibly go wrong...? But, in the meantime, now for Wrexham! |
