Another important one: I just signed the petition calling Rishi Sunak to deliver an emergency plan to tackle NHS waiting lists now. Result... Dear Hatter in Macc,
BREAKING NEWS: Paula Vennells is handing back her CBE with immediate effect after 1.2 million of us came together to sign a petition demanding she be stripped of her honour due her involvement in the Post Office Horizon software scandal.
As one wrongfully convicted sub-postmistress has said, it "took a million people '' to force Paula Vennells' hand. "It shows the people have spoken", she said."
And Will Mellor, who played subpostmaster Lee Castleton in the drama about this scandal shared this message with the 38 Degrees team:
“I feel really proud of what people have achieved here. It shows the power of what people can do when we come together. It shouldn’t have taken the drama to do this, but I’m proud that the drama has done it, I’m over the moon that people have got behind this petition to try and get some justice for the Subpostmasters.
This is a first step, but there’s a long way still to go, there’s lots to do to make sure that the subpostmasters get the justice and compensation they deserve.”
The petition has been covered by every major newspaper in the UK and featured on countless TV channels over the last few days. And thanks to people like you, Hatter in Macc, sharing the campaign with friends and family, it's 38 Degrees' fastest growing petition ever.
But this amazing news is just the first step in making sure sub-postmasters get justice. And here’s the thing: 38 Degrees isn’t going away. In the coming days we'll be speaking to the victims of this scandal to see how else our incredible movement of millions of people right across the UK can help.
So thank you for being involved, and watch this space! We'll be in touch soon with the next steps.
Robin, David, Jemmar, Megan and the 38 Degrees team
PS: Moments like this show how powerful we can be when thousands of us work together - small actions like signing a petition, sharing the campaign on Facebook, or emailing your MP, it all adds up and makes us a force to be reckoned with. And that’s what 38 Degrees is all about, it’s named after the angle at which snowflakes gather to form an avalanche. So thank you for being part of this avalanche, Hatter in Macc.

Had the very same email myself, Maccy. It's a fantastic effort and it really does show that the only time these petitions are a waste of time is when people receive a petition link, dismiss it as a waste of time and don't sign it.
They DO work.

You've only got to look back to his speech to supporters in Tunbridge Wells to know what kind of person he is, then wonder what he was telling those people in Marple last week. Allowing energy companies to restart forced prepayment meter installation is unacceptable - only an outright ban will protect families struggling with sky high energy costs. Why is this important? Ofgem is letting energy suppliers resume force-fitting prepayment meters - nearly a year after the public came together to get the practice suspended. The result? Struggling families at risk of being cut off because they can’t afford to top up due to sky high energy prices. Ofgem says new rules will protect vulnerable people but it’s already been revealed that the first batch of new warrants wrongly included young mothers! It’s clear energy companies can’t be trusted to self-regulate - and Ofgem is too weak to hold them to account. A total ban on forced prepayment meters is the only thing that will prevent more heart-breaking stories like this. act.38degrees.org.uk/act/pp-ban-forced-prepayment-meters?utm_source=email&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=blast43962

The cost of household energy in the U.K. is incredible, in a low month, no aircon or heating I pay 35 to 40€ a month. The highest bills I have are less than 60€. Although it doesn’t get properly cold here the buildings are built to release heat so in the winter they get pretty cold. It is often warmer in the street than it is inside!
Signed.

Totally agree mate and he might stoop so low as to use this as a mandate to privatise. The NHS workers that I know are totally demoralised by this governments continuous meddling and not providing enough front line staff to do the work without the added stress, risk and burn out. This must be part of the plan to get experienced staff to move to NZ. Oz, Canada and other english speaking countries where they are valued and can earn much more and get looked after and are highly valued and respected. They can then sub out work to their grubby mates in the private sector.
This government doesnt have a f*****n clue.

This government doesnt have a f*****n clue. The worrying thing is, mate, they do - they know exactly what they're doing - 100% managed decline.

"A society grows great when old men plant trees in whose shade they shall never sit.” Not something the Tories live by. Theirs is more likely to be 'It won't affect us, we'll be long gone by the time it hits the fan - fill yer boots.' Signed, Duds.

This one needs plenty of signatures: Revoke GB News’ broadcasting licence Why is this important? GB News are currently facing 13 investigations relating to allegations of fairness and impartiality by media regulator Ofcom. But these investigations don’t seem to be making them change their ways. It’s time to clamp down hard on GB News and revoke their licence to broadcast. We don't have to agree with everything GB News does or says, but we should expect all news outlets to follow the rules. Ofcom needs to hold all channels to a high standard and punish those that break the rules. you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/switch-off-gb-news?
