Welcome to EP for the second consecutive Saturday, and, for any Welsh speakers among our visitors, croeso i Gasnewydd!
Newport have enjoyed a tremendous campaign to date, after making the early running in the title-race and then nestling nicely in the play-offs chasing pack. Without doubt, one of our hardest-earned results of the season was the draw at Rodney Parade back in September - although we will, of course, be striving to recover some much-needed home form and go one better this afternoon. We shall also be hoping that our cause is assisted as a consequence of the two midweek fixtures that our opponents will have played immediately ahead of their visit!
A week ago in SK3, and then on Tuesday at Kenilworth Road, we witnessed hugely disappointing defeats to, respectively, Braintree and Luton. Four new players - namely, Lee Bullock, Kieran Charnock, Danny Schofield and Javan Vidal - made their debuts on the first occasion, and County Heaven extends its customary welcome to each of them.
Speaking of those other ‘Hatters’, from Luton, Sandy and I were well chuffed to be invited, as loyal and (hopefully!) representative visiting fans, to submit to the powers-that-be there a piece for their programme covering County’s midweek trip. Our fame is clearly spreading - but we won’t, of course, let it go to our heads...
Now then, excuse me while I get myself spruced up for our cocktail bar-crawl with Deirdre Barlow and other ‘Corrie’ ladies of a certain age. (The Rovers Return is, I gather, out of commission right now.)
Ready, Sandy?

One second, Maccy. I’m just helping Gail with her zip...there.
Hello again, fellow Hatters! Greetings, also, to any Newport fans who have purchased a programme and quite rightly headed for the article dubbed the “jewel in the crown” of County Life. Not my words, the words of Programme Monthly Magazine.*
As the season nears its (hopefully not nail-biting) end, I assume that by now every home fan reading this article is a fully-fledged member of County Heaven. However, just in case there is anyone who is still a CH virgin (presumably due to being abroad, in jail, on a submarine...), I’ll give you an idea of what you’ve been missing.
For starters, Kevin Cooper has now been added to our A-Z of County Legends known as CHIEF (County Heaven Index of Edgeley Favourites); Maccy won the latest limerick competition despite my attempts to bribe the guest judge, Gazza, into giving me the prize; and, away from football, the recent Six Nations (best not mention this further, bearing in mind our visitors) and the new F1 season have both been prominent.
Lastly, you may be aware that I am organising a sponsored walk from EP to the Moss Rose on Easter Saturday in aid of KidsCan, a local children’s cancer charity. I’m being joined by 20 fellow walkers (including my co-writer, Maccy) and full details can be found on County Heaven or by visiting www.justgiving.com/HattersHike2013. There is still time to take part or, more importantly, donate. Any amount will be gratefully received.
Thanks, and enjoy the game.
