Afternoon everyone, and welcome to Edgeley Park for today’s match against Braintree. You will be pleased to learn that, after our swap for the Luton article in which I had to write the football side due to Maccy’s absence on a ‘business trip’, he has returned safely and normality is restored. I think we can all take some comfort from that...
What’s new on CH then? Well, to save our members from becoming too despondent with recent results, spirits have been lifted by the inception of our brand new feature, CHIEF (‘County Heaven Index of Edgeley Favourites’). Each week, I suggest a short-list of nominees for everyone to vote on in order to compile our very own A-Z of County greats, and so far we have placed ANGELL, Brett and BENNETT, Tom into our Hall of Fame. Both worthy entries, I’m sure you’ll agree.
Elsewhere, music still features highly as a source of discussion and, while I’ve been urging members to recommend lesser-known bands to their fellow Heaveners, county_fan has instead asked everyone to nominate the song that irks them most – Bohemian Rhapsody is (quite rightly) an extremely popular (or should that be unpopular?) choice! Lennie has embraced democracy in his Limerick Lounge so that each winner now judges the next, Fudgie (true to his name) has been listing his favourite sweets, and that blasted films thread still hasn’t gone away despite all but a few members ignoring it in the hope that it will!
Here’s one of the worst culprits now...

‘The Man With Two Brain(tree)s’!
Oh, well – please yourselves. Having put it off thus far, had better talk about the football...
Since our last notes, produced for what turned out to be the disappointing home defeat to those other ‘Hatters’, from Luton, County have travelled well over 750 miles in round trips. In the process, we picked up a useful point at Dartford; we maintained the pattern of League matches at Field Mill over the last thirty years, by finding ourselves on the wrong end of a customary reverse against Mansfield – in spite of an impressive (consolation) goal-of-the-season-contending-long-range strike, courtesy of Paul Marshall (to whom a belated County Heaven welcome is due); and, most recently and crucially, we braved a bitterly cold Cumbrian evening to pick up three precious, precious points at the expense of Barrow.
This afternoon, we play host to a team with which, in three fixtures to date, the points have always been rather agreeably shared. Last season’s draw at EP, not far shy of a year ago, was particularly notable for securing County’s BSP safety. Today, however, we still have some way to go in that respect – and three points, rather than just the one, will be very much needed...please!
Enjoy the game.
