What a pity - but well done, Yoker, on reaching the Final.

I was only thinking about Yoker yesterday.

I was only thinking about Yoker yesterday. Bad luck guys. How did they finish up in the league ? Mid-table in the West of Scotland Conference C. Nowhere near either the top or the bottom, they did well to reach the final where they were beaten by a team with pretensions to the lower leagues of the Scottish professional game.

I have been confused about this for a while. I saw they had finished mid table but their manager said he was delighted to have secured promotion… this post has reminded me and so I did a little digging! up the wee ho. double promotion for ourselves and Yoker!

It sounds like the manager is cautiously optimistic, so let's hope that both County and Yoker get off to a flyer this weekend!
Cheers for posting, Duds!

Here's a curious record that most teams will not be able, or even want to emulate. I came across it by chance recently, but it was a report into an enquiry by the West of Scotland Junior FA into incident which took place in 1964 during a cup tie between Yoker Athletic and Cambuslang Rangers during which the entire Yoker team were sent off when they refused to allow a penalty awarded against them to be taken.
Apparently, the penalty spot had been obliterated by water lying on the pitch and the Yoker team were not happy that the kick could be taken without it. Whilst handing the Yoker right-half John Canning, a 7 day ban for ungentlemanly remarks made at the referee's expense, a further enquiry was ordered into the behaviour of the rest of the team. Sadly, I have found no record of the outcome of the subsequent findings.
