Between November 2016 and June 2017, County Heaveners nominated and voted on an A-Z collection of some of the most interesting football clubs from around the world, known as CHASM [County Heaven's Anthology of Soccer Miscellany]. A subsequent 'World Championship' involving the weekly clubs of choice resulted in an overall win for Yoker Athletic, an outfit from near Glasgow who ply their trade in the Central District First Division of the Scottish Junior Football League (within Scotland's equivalent of the non-league pyramid). This thread is being set up so that we on CH can keep tabs on the progress - or otherwise! - of our 'adopted' club. By way of further background: (1) Initial discussion of Yoker on this forum can be found at: www.countyheaven.freeforums.net/thread/4407/chasm-week ; (2) Yoker's own club website is at: www.yokerathletic.com ; and (3) Follow them on Twitter at @yokerathleticfc. Happy reading. And go, Yoker!

Already posted elsewhere - but, for the sake of completeness... Yoker have already been in pre-season Sectional League Cup action, although missed out on the knockout-stage - with former Scottish League outfit Clydebank going through from their group: www.yokerathletic.com/cupfixtures.html - click on 'Sectional League Cup', 'Fixtures' and 'Table'.

And so to the start of the season-proper yesterday, and an eagerly-awaited curtain-raiser against Wishaw... Oh dear :

One more introductory post, in the form of Yoker's recent communication with Sandy upon learning of the club's induction into CHASM:
Yoker Athletic (Scotland)
I am delighted that your members chose Yoker Athletic! It is the first time in our 151-year history that we have won a global award, and for it to be such a prestigious one will delight our many (well, not so many) fans.
Yoker Athletic are a “Junior” football club which is a very confusing term as its actually a term used in Scotland to describe a semi-professional adult team.
We hail from the banks of the Clyde where many of the shipyard workers in days gone by used to watch and play for Yoker. As most of them wore bunnets (a Scottish word for a flat cap) in those days we could have been called “The Bunnets”; not quite as posh as “The Hatters” though.
Anyway, please pass on our good wishes to the “County Heaven” members, great to see fans following smaller clubs (no disrespect) especially with your close proximity to Manchester.
Campbell Secretary and General Dogsbody Yoker Athletic Football Club

Cheers, Gazz-man!
Next League match: Greenock Juniors, Away, on the 26th.
Let us hope that the weather is kinder over in Greenock...!

When can we arrange a CH trip to watch them play?

I, for one, would really like to visit - and my guess is that, with all the postponements Yoker suffer, the season up there is likely to extend beyond County's, which might enable a trip in, say, early/mid-May? (Last year's campaign was not completed until June!) Some interesting further reading about the ground on this blog - both by the blogger and in the follow-up comments - together with pics: hoppysnaps.blogspot.co.uk/2010/03/yoker-athleticclydebank-scotland.html

Yoker's season properly up and running, courtesy of a well-earned draw away from home yesterday - and after being two-down at half-time!
Greenock 2, Yoker 2 (Maitland, 48; Wallace, 64).

Next up for Yoker - or the 'Whe Ho', as they are curiously nicknamed (something to do with their Holm Park ground, perhaps?)! - another away-fixture: at Neilston next Saturday (2nd September).
This will be the second of five consecutive Saturday afternoons on the road for Yoker, who are not scheduled to play at... erm, 'Holm' in the League until 7th October! Hopefully, it will have dried out, following last weekend's postponement, by then...

A defeat by the odd goal in three yesterday:
Neilston 2, Yoker 1 (Hynes, 72).
All three goals were scored within eight minutes of each other - with Yoker equalising a minute after going behind, only then to concede again.
Next up - another away-trip on a Saturday (9th), this time to Forth Wanderers. Will it be third time lucky against the Forth?!
