Looking back through this thread, did Gazz hint at this signing as far back as 27th Feb?...
Any other predictions, Gazz?! If you get any more in the know, you'll have to join Yellowboard!

quite hopeful about the signing though - loads of experience at higher levels, and likely a more effective screen than what we've got...

Great signing, really pleased to have him back. Hope he gets the armband for next season.
Apparently he's not fully fit, but nor is Harry Winter and he's been in the first team all season...

Oswell is conspicuous by his absence from that list, but if he doesn't start scoring soon he could well be struggling to get on anyone's list.

no complaints with those apart from the midfield - not convinced by thomas, unless he's still got more to give after coming back from such bad injuries, and walker's been a bust.

Considering we're still in March I'm satisfied with how the squad seems to be coming together for next season. This season is a write off IMO, we won't get playoffs so best focusing our efforts financially on next season.
GK we're in good shape. 2 solid keepers for this level.
Likewise up top we're looking good so far. I was resigned to Oswell playing his trade elsewhere next season anyway - given his contract is up in the summer. Whether we keep him or whether he wants to stay remains to be seen, however his stock certainly has fallen in recent months. He's still a goal scorer though so if he's happy and getting the right service he will score goals, whether that's for us or someone else. My main concern is that we don't lose Warburton in a similar way to how we lost Montrose. I think Matty is a quality player and adds that touch of class that can separate two teams at this level - as we know, the loss of Montrose and the failure to replace him destroyed our season before it even started.
Midfield obviously needs more additions, but I'm delighted with the return of Turnbull. He's been a great servant to the club through some very difficult times in the past, but he's also been with us in the good times. He's a player Jim knows very well, that he likes, and that he trusts. I would expect him to be club captain next season. He knows what County means and he's more than capable at this level if he get back into shape (which I expect he can). Not disappointed with retaining Ball - he's probably not on huge wages and has shown flashes of a quality player in there somewhere. I still think he's searching for his best position, but a good squad option. The club have been more than generous to Thomas who has been desperately unlucky with injuries. Jury is still out, but if Jim thinks he's worth a final chance I'm happy to give him one - hopefully we'll be pleasantly surprised! In terms of Walker... I don't think he'll be at the club next season.
Defensively, I'm delighted to have Minihan and Cowan on board for next year. Duxberry is also a solid player that I'm pleased to have secured for next season - we forget just how young he still is, and if I'm not mistaken he's made over 100 appearances for the club now! Not too many players can say that over the last decade! It will be interesting to see what happens to the likes of Clarke, Smalley and Hally. Given Clarke and Smalley had a good, solid partnership last season they are clearly good enough for this level. Obviously this season we have missed Montrose massively and that has been reflected in our defensive solidarity, however it will be interesting to see if any of them are retained. Perhaps they are playing for a new contract between now and the end of the season? Or maybe they will get fixed up elsewhere?
I know we said this last season, but I'm happy that we have a core squad that we can build on over the summer rather than starting from scratch. Some key additions are still needed (mostly in midfield as it stands), but a lot of what we need will rest on whether the likes of Oswell, Clarke, etc commit for next season. I hope we decide early and can get these question marks answered over the next few months so when the summer comes around we have a clear picture of exactly what is needed for next season and lay the foundations for a good campaign with some solid recruitment.

Still seems like we need to score 3 to make sure of winning a game.
As long as we can score 3 a game, no problem. Otherwise we need to be more stable in defence (like last season).

Not too many players can say that over the last decade! Yup, he's just a few away from 150 appearances. I think Smalley was recently mentioned as being a few away from a 100th appearance.

Correct, H. Today's appearance was a maximum break of 147 for 'Dux'.

With those initials, he could be our Steve Davis!
