yes - let's have some fortress edgeley please, macca.
only been in about half an hour and i'm still not a fan of the train. if it's good enough for moke (he's always on the first train back to leeds as well), it probably should be good enough for me. when i was standing in an overcrowded doorspace between leeds and huddersfield on the way out though i was thinking 'sod saturday'...
we were pretty dominant from the off, really. by the time we scored, dennis had already put one into the side netting, and rapped another against the legs of their 'keeper when an irate jevons was standing square of him. there were two possible offside shouts for the goal, but clearly no-one outside the 9 motors fans (who had mysteriously swelled to 15 in the second half) cared too much.
kyle jacobs hit a rasper narrowly wide from miles out, and moke hit a decent low shot that their 'keeper dived to smother. a few decisions (apart from the offside goals) appeared to be going in our favour - we went close from a move in which i thought the ball had gone out for a throw, and one of theirs left a shot which had clearly deflected off howard, but the ref gave a corner. it all helps the momentum! their opportunities were limited to us getting mixed up in defence or giving the ball away stupidly, but we were well in control. the only fly in the ointment was that at 1-0 at half time the game was still in the balance. howard helped unbalance it a bit at the start of the second half with a hard hit from a bit of an angle that i think beat the 'keeper at his near post. dennis was then slipped in and dinked the 'keeper for the third.
we had a bit of a breather for a while before jevons smashed the fourth home. then a bit of a scramble led to one of theirs banging the ball goalwards. i couldn't tell whether fagbola moved his hand towards it or it just hit him, but dibble was pretty close to the resulting penalty. alan lord gave cowen an absolute b*ll*cking for warming up down near the corner when he wanted to put him on to fill the fagbola-shaped hole. VM had a spell of pressure for the last part of the game once we were down to ten, but the game had got away from them long before. duxbury was my man of the match. really busy, useful on the overlap, good defensively. i'm afraid he'll be the next one out of the door marked 'young talent 20p'. nicky platt was also excellent, but there were a lot of good performances, including phil jevons, who actually got the honours. obviously the standard of football becomes apparent from time to time, but at this level, i am starting to feel confident about this lot and reckon that if we hang on to the ones we want to keep in the summer, we'll be a play-off side next season.
edgeley park, and the north wind doth blow. despite twelve hundred layers, hat, scarf and gloves, and even at 4-0 up, there were still moments when i questioned the sanity of my attendance, and that of our meagre turnout. 1428 is pretty painful, to be honest; and unlike the team at the start of the season, this lot deserve a few more turning up to watch, what is afterall, attacking and WINNING!!!! football.

Thanks, as always, for the live updates and match reports. It really does look like a run that will, well, run and run.
The tone of the Limericks are probably the best gauge of our optimism / pessimism so it will be interesting to see the Stalyvegas entries!

the 9 motors fans (who had mysteriously swelled to 15 in the second half) Our heavy-handed stewards started putting themselves about in the away-corner after the break... Exile-ent report, matey!

Agreed, excellent report, ars. In fact, cheers to all who take the time to share their thoughts on matches, it really is much appreciated, not least by those of us who at present aren't getting to games.

Lovely win. Nice three points. And, most importantly, evidence that this team is definitely turning things around. It's been a long time since we totally played a team off the park and, make no mistake, that's exactly what we did last night.
Great to see Macca at the pie-hut before the game too (Steak & Ale in shortcrust pastry with Mash, Peas & Gravy in case you wondered).
