Former British Olympian Lawrence Okoye just been released by Miami Dolphins.
I am going for the Cowboys. I hate all their brashness and moneybagsness but you can never change your club.
Thanks JR...

Careful, Duds! The Cowboys and Eagles have a not-remotely-local rivalry going on, a bit like County and B*rnley. They got very close with young players last year, I think they're a good shout to win it.

It begins! After an exciting first match-up on Thursday night, the first Sunday night NFL begins in a couple of hours! Let's hope for a great season, with lots of teams in contention for a playoff place right up until the end.

A welcome distraction from County...
All Week 4 fixtures have now been completed! It's been a fascinating start to the season, and not just because of all the anthem-kneeling drama. The Eagles have won 3 and lost 1 so far, and are doing well despite a lot of defensive injuries. Even better, they've won two against division rivals. The much-fancied Giants have lost all 4 of their games, the Cowboys and the Redskins have won 2 and lost 2 each.
Of the teams I've seen so far, I was most impressed by the Kansas City Chiefs, who've won all four. I also watched the Rams beat the Cowboys at the weekend. The Rams were very effective and looked like a team with the potential to reach the playoffs. The Cowboys tired towards the end of the game, as they had a shorter break between games than the Rams. They did get Zeke moving in the first half -- he is the best RB in the league by a distance. I still think they'll win the division.
My highlight so far is this field goal with one second left on the clock. The kicker is a rookie brought in one week earlier after an injury, and it was his second-ever game. At 61 yards, it was the longest field goal in the history of the Eagles. Great scenes!

Well...
The Eagles have made it to the Super Bowl! I have no idea how to react, as this is the first time I've ever gone through the experience of having one of the sporting teams I follow achieve some success. I must look like the biggest glory hunting, MUFC-toothbrush-and-Popcorn-set buying, Ryan-Cantona-cockney-red types since records began. Please be assured that the Eagles have never won the Super Bowl before, and probably won't win it this time.
Lots of great games in the play-offs -- did anyone else follow it?

rest assured you don't come across as one of those 'my great grandad once got diverted to manchester airport' types, don't worry.
what's your reason? i have no affinity for the game, but the falcons would be my team, because i've been to georgia a couple of times, landing at atlanta, and a silver jews song has the line 'did you know your analyst was a place-kicker for the falcons?' in. not 'i was born under the cheadle end', admittedly...

Great come back by the Patriots. Tom Brady led yet again.
Can't really bet against them in the Superbowl. However, I do like an underdog.

Thanks for the comforting words, ARS! I spent six months in Philadelphia as a student, and really loved it there. Weirdly enough, I arrived in August 2005, a few months after the Eagles lost to the Patriots in the Super Bowl -- the last time they got to the championship game. NFL games were on in the background in a few bars etc, but I didn't know anything about it and was slightly less enlightened in those days ("the ball's not even round, so they shouldn't be allowed to call it a ball..." or "they don't even touch the ball down, so it shouldn't be allowed to call it a touch down..."). These days, I'm a full snowflake and let the fake news media tell me what to think and which cultural and sporting events to follow. Go Eagle green and white sox!
Len, you're right. Brady looks almost impossible to stop. The Eagles will need a few flukey plays in their favour. In any case, it will be very exciting!

I did think the vikings were going to make it this year, they had looked really impressive. In the end I think they just ran out of steam. As for the cowboys....

What a first half, eagles quarterback Nick Foles becomes the first ever player to throw and receive a touchdown pass in the Super Bowl from a trick play.
Justin timberlake is about to perform so I’ve gone to bed!

Watched till half time likewise, duds. What a SuperBowl! Pats are now the first team to put up 600 yards of offence in a game in NFL history - not just SuperBowl history - and lose!

Seems a good time to bump this thread. The playoff picture is now complete, with my beloved Eagles preparing for a home game against Seattle. Anybody going to be following the action over the coming weeks?
