Cooperative`s Meeting with the Club . This meeting, originally scheduled for today ( 20 May), has unavoidably had to be re-arranged for Tuesday next week 25 May. We have tabled 18 questions to the Club, and will publish our usual fulsome report as soon as possible following the meeting. Hatters Half Marathon Gets Early Boost ! The Stockport County Supporters Cooperative are proud to again be promoting and organising the Hatters Half Marathon on Sunday 5 September 2021. The popularity of the race, the showcase event of our year ,was quickly emphasised when within 7 days of Race Director John Giles opening entries for this year`s event, 67 runners from all over the UK had signed up to join us on the starting line at 9.30 am on race day! It is a measure of the high regard the race commands with those runners, of a wide range of abilities and experience. They tell us that they love the course which starts outside Edgeley Park , takes off through the streets of Stockport to the banks of the mighty River Mersey that truly splendid waterway that once served as the boundary between the ancient kingdoms of Mercia and Northumbria , and latterly the counties of Lancashire and Cheshire, where runners can enjoy running miles of well maintained pathways whilst taking in the historic beauty around them, before returning to a splendid tree lined finish in Alexandra Park……they love the friendly and efficient marshalling that adds to their enjoyment and keeps them safe! We are proud also to welcome the valued support of our senior corporate partner C & C Healthcare , and we thank the Club for allowing us to use Edgeley Park once again on race day! So, we are moving fast now , and with the essential assistance of Platform 81 , the Hatters Half Marathon website has now been updated - www.hattershalf.co.uk. and you can view a video of our last event in 2019, check our course map, view results from 2015 to 2019 and enter this year's race! Play off semi final ticketing policy
Stockport County Supporters Co-operative would like to thank the Club for announcing that they will be covering the cost of tickets the semi- final play offs for season ticket holders. This was something supported by the Co-op during our meeting this week and we are delighted that the Club have made this gesture.
The limited access to Edgeley Park has been challenging for all parties this season, due to the government's Covid restrictions. Season ticket holders have only been able to gain access to the Woking home game, the semi- final of the play offs and potential access to tickets for the final (subject to County qualifying). This situation has been particularly challenging for families, who have retained two or more season tickets, but have effectively only been able to make use of one streaming pass.
Meanwhile, the Co-op acknowledge this situation has been very difficult for the football club, who have faced historically low levels of income, but have continued to invest heavily in the infrastructure of Edgeley Park, the training facilities and the playing squad. We would like to acknowledge and thank the Club for this commitment.
The gesture for the play off semi-final is appreciated and helps recognise the fantastic loyalty shown by County season ticket holders.

Cheers for sharing, Hedge, some interesting questions and answers in there. It sounds like EP has been fenced in somewhat by the nearby housing development, so it'll be interesting to see what (if any) plans there are for the Railway End. Personally, I can't see anything other than a roof being put there, but with the introduction of the new scoreboard, I can't see this being for some time, if at all. The main stand is probably more important for me, so I'd be more interested in seeing what they'd have planned, especially when working around that facade. I'm not sure I believe the club regarding Jim leaving on good terms, so I'd like to hear Jim's side of that one before buying into the club's official line. I don't think I'll have any closure on that until Jim decides to tell us, but I don't think that's going to be any time soon. It's good that the club are honouring the remaining co-op tickets. I really can't see how they can implement a park and ride scheme, but maybe this is something that can be discussed with SMBC. I don't think I'd like to see the club streaming games unless it was at the standard matchday ticket price, as any cheaper could affect the matchday revenue streams massively. Imagine we're on a poor run of form and the weather is crap, I imagine a good few non ST holders would rather sit at home and watch the game for less than the normal price than get p**sed wet through travelling to and from the game. That's just my opinion. Cheers again, Hedge.

SUPPORTERS GROUPS MOVE TO HONOUR LEGENDARY MANAGER Occasionally you come across a person who is `larger than life` and Danny Bergara was definitely one of those people. ‘The Man from Uruguay’, as he has become affectionately known, was a man whose warmth and talent transformed Stockport County`s performances on the field of play beyond recognition in the 1990s. In the two decades prior to his arrival at Edgeley Park in 1989, The Hatters had never won more games than they had lost, never scored more goals than they conceded, and never finished above 11th position in the basement division. The following six seasons would see the club’s supporters enjoy a constant feast of ‘play-offs’, promotions and Wembley Finals. In his first full season Danny led his team to their first ever ‘play-off’ experience, which ultimately ended in disappointment, but placed in true context of the club’s achievements over the previous twenty years, it was to prove to be the beginning of a massive turnaround masterminded by the Uruguayan. The 1990/91 season saw Danny Bergara’s Stockport County promoted as runners up in the Fourth Division, his team being made up of a mixture of free transfers and bargain buys. Having arrived in Division Three for the 1991/92 season, Danny’s team proved to be inspirational, starting as they meant to continue, with an opening day five-goal thrashing of Swansea City. The club finished the campaign in fifth place and gained a place in the end of season ‘play-offs’. At the end of that season Bergara became the first County boss in history to lead a team out at Wembley Stadium when the team faced Stoke City in the Autoglass Final, in doing so he became the first manager born outside the UK, to lead an English club side out at The National Stadium. Amazingly the following weekend saw him proudly lead his side out at the same venue again, in the Play-off Final against Peterborough United. Bergara was to lead his team out twice more at the World’s most famous stadium over the next two seasons, once each in the Autoglass Trophy and play-off finals. Despite the fact that the team were to suffer defeat in all four of their visits to the capital, the little Uruguayan had transformed Stockport County from a ‘music hall’ joke into a team that any football supporter could be proud of. Danny had made a massive impact on County supporters and changed the direction of the Club utilising his personal brand of magic! During his time at Edgeley Park he showed an uncanny knack of unearthing a player for little or no money and transforming them into outstanding performers. He brought in the likes of Chris Beaumont, David Frain, Neil Edwards, Jim Gannon, Mike Flynn, Andy Preece, Kevin Francis, Lee Todd, Alun Armstrong, Tony Dinning, Sean Connolly, Peter Ward, Paul R Williams and Paul A Williams; all gave years of great service to the club and in many cases moved on for much larger ‘fees’ than they had arrived for. It was all this and more that persuaded the Stockport County Supporters Cooperative to join forces with Help the Hatters and work out a way to honour Danny`s name, and we felt a bronze statue sited outside Edgeley Park would be the appropriate tribute to a great man, and Stockport County were pleased to endorse this venture! Consequently we have set up a fund to help us raise £50,000 to enable a statue to be commissioned, along with a ring fenced bank account, linked to our Just Giving account, and both the Supporters Cooperative and Help the Hatters have agreed to donate £2,000 each to start the statue fund on its way. We hope you will join us in this venture to honour one of Stockport County`s finest!
