Morning all
Plenty to choose from this week, so my initial shortlist is, more than ever, just a springboard for further suggestions. Here are your five starters:
Saving Private Ryan (1998) Schindler’s List (1993) Shawshank Redemption, The (1994) Skyfall (2012) Star Wars (1977)
Get voting!

Ordinarily, I'd go with 'The Shawshank Redemption' as it's my favourite movie ever. However, I'm a Bond freak and 'Skyfall' is the best Bond movie since the Connery era and Daniel Craig is the best Bond since then too (in my opinion) - so that will be my choice here.
This scene (particularly where 007 takes out Silva's henchmen) is just superb!

So many contenders this week. But, funnily enough for me, one of the easiest choices - which happens to be the most hilarious film made. Ever. Ladies, gentlemen and pretend-ladies, I offer you the comedy gold genius master-work that is... Some Like it Hot

I am also a massive Bond fan, and would echo everything Gazza says about Skyfall, but Star Wars was a part of my life long before I'd even heard of Bond. I was born the year Empire came out, and would apparently watch Star Wars at least once a day before I turned 4 and had to start going to school.
Star Wars for me.

I prefer the one about the German industrialist with a drink problem - "Schindler's Pissed".
Schindler's List for me please.

Mentions for:
Salem's Lot. Saps at Sea. School of Rock. Scrooge (1951). Scrooged. See No Evil, Hear No Evil. Sexy Beast. Shallow Grave. Shane. The Shining. Silver Streak (1976). The Sixth Sense. Sliding Doors. Sons of the Desert. Source Code. Stakeout. Star Wars. Stir Crazy. Stripes. Superman (1978)
I'm really struggling with this one and may change my mind during the week but my vote goes to The Shawshank Redemption.

Lots to choose from... Seven Superman The Sting Shrek The Shining Sex, Lies and Videotape Safe Saturday Night Fever - so much more than the soundtrack Short Cuts Speed St Elmo's Fire The Slience of the Lambs Scent of a Woman My vote goes to Shawshank Redemption - an incredible film and an incredible achievement… when you consider that for the most part, the picture had no backing.

Going for Star Wars as it was 'out of this world' when it hit the cinema screens in 75. Closely followed by Skyfall.

It really was a film ahead of its time. Two years ahead in fact, as it didn't come out until '77!

Superman The Shining Scent of a Woman Superb! Christopher Reeve will always be Superman for me. No CGI-infested, supercharged Ultra HD remake will ever, ever come close to his portrayal. Jack Nicholson is one of my all-time movie heroes, and The Shining was just a phenomenal piece of psychological horror. Scent Of A Woman is an immense movie. I think everything that ever needed to be said about Pacino's speech at the end has been said. If you've not seen it, watch it - just..... WOW!

There are so many S films to go at and many have been mentioned already.
Even before the sad news of Gene Wilder's passing yesterday this letter was always going to be between See no evil, Hear no evil and Stir Crazy.
The one that wins though is the one I've seen the most and watched it well over 100 times throughout my life so far and that's Stir Crazy.

Great shouts, cf.
I'll add 'STILL Crazy' to the honourable mentions list - a great movie.

Speaking of Gene Wilder, I noticed Downy made mention of 'Silverstreak', which was a film I used to love. Haven't seen it in years, but now feels like a good time to dig it out.

Honourable mentions for Sleeper - nearly all Woody Allen films deserve at least an honourable mention. The Spy Who Loved Me - my favourite post-Connery Bond film with a top theme tune. The Spy Who Came In From The Cold - excellent Cold War film and one of Burton's best performances.
However, like cf, I'm going for Stir Crazy because it just seems right.
