As you may or may not know, to remain ad-free we pay for so many page views to be ad-free over the course of one month and we ran through our allocation alot faster than we expected mainly down to the Word Association Thread, the P/C/P/C thread and the A/W/A/W thread.
We don't want to close them down but at the minute it looks like it's simply too expensive to keep them running whilst remaining ad-free, we don't however want to just close them down without finding out what people want, would anybody actually be against us closing them down?
As I said, no one wants us to get rid of them but in the opinion of a few admin's it may well be a necessity.

i'd prefer to keep them. they help keep the postings going. perhaps find out how many volunteers there are to help with the costs of ad-free and then make a decision on that. down to you lot really though, and i'm happy to go with your decision.

I would like to keep them, it's just that they're just so page view heavy. Basically, 100,000 page views should easily cover us for a whole month. That's just over £8 a month. If we got ten people a year to muck in with £8, and let the ads come on here during the summer break (June & July), we could easily get by. If we ever ran out with a few days of the month to go, we'd simply leave the ads up until the beginning of the next month to save burning up 50,000 views for a few days, 50,000 is the minimum and they don't carry over.
It's getting people interested in donating though, and we don't want people to feel as though they have to, but it really is the more the merrier, and the better for everyone who does.

Yeah, Gazza pretty much said it, we would love to keep them going, they're a staple on this forum, however it's only really practical if people don't mind chipping in.

I have made a Libran compromise-suggestion in the Boardroom that we just close the Word Association thread in the first instance. Its daily page-turnover is by far the busiest, and, consequently, its views, more than any other, eat significantly into our allowance.
The P/C/P/C and A/W/A/W threads (both of which tend not to go far beyond an additional page a day) could then continue, subject to monitoring. They do add something positive towards the general feel of our community - especially when goings-on at County become too miserable to discuss - and, for good measure, P/C/P/C throws up a few former County players for us to remember... except, of course, when we get ourselves stuck in Brazilian non-league and Faroe Islands wildernesses!

aren't you a libran on the cusp of scorpio though? and therefore entirely evil?
it's funny, cos i don't believe in all that hocus-pocus, but i can definitely see the libran in you, and in me too (despite some swearing).

Whoa - "entirely evil"?! Bit harsh... I would prefer to say "with potential for a sting in the tail":-) There's certainly something in astrology, so far as my experience goes. Both Mrs Macc and Mother Macc are Cancerian women - and always likely to go off on one whenever a full moon is in the offing!!

Any progress on this, guys? I'd happily chip in £5-£10 to keep us ad-free for a year if that helps.
Sandy, your Aquarian comment reminds me of a classic line from Drop the Dead Donkey: Henry to an intern: "Do you have any Yorkshire blood in you?" Intern: "No." Henry: "Would you like some?" Fnarr fnarr

I'd rather keep all the threads going and will happily pay £8.00 for one of the months, If we don't get enough volunteers for whatever reason i'd happily pay £16.00 for 2 months.
