Morning everyone. This may just be the most ambitious quiz I’ve ever done (it certainly took me the longest to write!). Strap yourselves in for a music AND maths round!
I have chosen 4 years from County’s long and illustrious history, one to guess at each week. Each of the 4 years saw an important milestone in our past. The clues will come in the form of lyrics from songs which have numbers in their titles, and you will need to follow the mathematical instructions to make sure you arrive at the correct total!
Every day, you will be given a song lyric and, don’t worry, I’ve tried where possible to choose songs that you will know. For the more obscure ones (of which there are one or two), you might still be able to work them out.
You only get one guess at each day’s song, so make it count, and if you get it correct you score a point. But, each day you can also guess at what that week’s ‘significant year’ might be (which will become clear by Friday anyway, if you get the answers correct and your maths is ok!). You’ll get another 5 points if you guess the year AND significant event that took place in that year on the Monday, 4 on Tuesday and so on. Don’t worry, it’ll make sense as we go along.
Each week I’ll reveal the league table. Since there isn’t any link and overall bonus points to go for this time, whoever is top at the end of Week 4 will win!
All answers to be sent by PM or via e-mail to sandbachhatter@hotmail.co.uk.
Good luck everyone!

I haven't forgotten about the quiz, but I'm waiting on a few people's guesses for today. Normally, everyone has got the correct answer by Friday, so I can post the results around lunch time, but with it being a new song each day, I better give those remaining players until midnight tonight. As such, the table might be up on Monday now.
Thanks

Right, all the scores are in.
The songs were:
"I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" - The Proclaimers (500) Multiplied by "4th Time Around" - Bob Dylan (2,000) Subtract "Perfect 10" - Beautiful South (1,990) Add "Mambo No. 5" - Lou Bega (1,995) Add "Song 2" - Blur = 1,997.
So, the year was 1997.
I had said originally that you needed to get the specific reason for the season being significant, and of course in 1997 we had two reasons to celebrate - promotion and the infamous cup run. It was the cup run that I was after, but have since realised it would be unfair to deny someone points if they got it right, so you will have scored points on the day you got the year correct, even if you listed the wrong reason.
All of which means, congrats to Downy who got the year on Day 1, and currently leads the pack:
1. Down Under 10 2. Gazza 9 3= Bradninch 8 Epworth 8 Hatter in Macc 8 6= Archie 7 BBLW 7 8= County Benno 6 Dudley 6 Market Harborough 6
Week 2 will start shortly.

My apologies to Bradninch who I appear to have missed off the table. I'll rectify this as soon as I get into work tomorrow.

As this is a maths and music quiz, I thought we could have a theme tune or two for each round. I thought about being clever and suggesting some math rock (samoans are a fine band from cardiff) but thought this might be more well known by the rest of the class:
Any other suggestions, gang?
