Next up, a trip to Gloucester - well, Cheltenham - to mark Jim's return to League management with County.
Speaking of Cheltenham, tonight's game at Whaddon Road has been called off due to a frozen pitch. Here's hoping the southern temperatures ease a tad between now and Saturday!
Post your hopes, fears and dreams (keep 'em clean) here...

I hope - that I get to the game on time and the game is on! I fear - that if the result is a loss, people will start calling for Gannon's head in a point proving way! I dream - of 3 glorious points to bring up North with us!

For the benefit of any fellow Heaveners making the trip to Cheltenham... word from Gloucester this evening is that the pitch is in good order, and that no inspection is planned.

The last of Brewster's loan spell today, I really hope Jim wants to keep him and something can be worked out with Everton. We finally look to have the makings of some decent options up front with him and Marsden, not to mention Odejayi as their target man, so it would be a shame if we didn't get to see if it can develop into a solid goal return.

This was posted on MMMB, I think Odejayi must have a flat head!

didn't go. jon keighren described it as one of the least entertaining games of the season. given its strong competition, i'm glad i didn't do six hours in the car for it! decent point though given their recent form, and good to take a clean sheet from it.

I suppose it depends on your point of view. No doubt Keighren was entertained by the Norwich v Liverpool game which was on the telly in the pub I was in before kick-off. Personally I'm not that entertained by watching the pub team defending that was on show there. I would suggest that 2 weeks ago County would have come away with a pasting by a big, strong Gloucester side who've won each of their last 4 games. However for the first time in a long time we defended well, in numbers to a recognizable pattern. With the exception of a couple of mistakes the defensive performance was virtually error free and Gloucester were comfortably contained. Imho Montrose in particular had a great game in front of the back four. Clearly there continue to be problems going forward but on the back of the Telford game which I can assure Keighren was without question the most inept performance I have ever seen, that was almost a different side.

Pleasing to read your report, Yorksy. Sounds like Jim has simplified the tactics a bit, as in his interview he described the roles and priorities very clearly. I really like Montrose, but he seems to get lost sometimes and I am not sure he has always understood his role -- or sometimes had a role with too many (sometimes conflicting) responsibilities. I would be interested to see him a bit further forward, as I think he and Rule are both capable of contributing a lot more creatively. We need a Jason Taylor type to do the ugly stuff and give the other two a bit more freedom.

Whilst certainly not the edge of the seat stuff that we have seen before it was a millions miles better than recent weeks, we looked organised at the back and never in any massive danger of conceding and going forward we looked much more likely to make things happen up front as well.
Singh in the Gloucester goal did very well, I was generally impressed by all of the County players, Big Kay should have done better with his header and I was sorry to see Rule go off injured as I feel he really can dictate the play in County's favour!
One overwhelming negative is Mena? Menah? However his name is spelled, I'm not going to be too harsh because it's only his second or third league game but he really does look naff. A parting shot from Neil Young perhaps? Marsden is starting to fit in a bit better now but I can't see any way that Menah is going to fit into the team!

Thanks to Yorks and Fudgie for your thoughts on the game, hats off to you for making the trip. Your dedication alone deserved three points, but a clean sheet and a solid point, with some encouraging performances for Jim are the next best thing.
