Well played, County! Shame not three points but much better than a smack in the face!

A fairly decent point against a side with a pretty good away record this season.
Still, we should be putting teams to bed at home ourselves. Perhaps the level of expectation is less when away and that is why the County touring record is better.

Hitting it up to the big centre forward so that he can flick it on for the quick forward to run through and score... Sounds like a TACTIC! I don't know why those two have not spent more time on the pitch together. IMHO neither of them has what it takes to play as a lone striker -- that is a specialist position.
Well done Flynny! I hope both players start the next game: We might even have a GAMEPLAN!

Good to hear from Danny Morton too, and how much he wants to play for us.

dismal first half, worsened by the usual goalkeeping error. doesn't matter who's wearing the shirt - we probably need to exorcise the f***er. my cousin had already noted henderson's propensity for having a wander when he came out for something he was never going to get near. their player headed the ball over him, but it had no pace on. he raced back to his line to try and scoop it out, but failed. it wasn't just the textbook 'keeper failing to get to a cross and conceding a soft looking goal as a result that you see on MOTD or whatever; it was worse. he carried on wandering for the remainder of the game, fannied around on the ball too often (leading to one of their forwards blocking his clearance, but fortunately this one bounced behind for a goal kick). ledsham, after injuring the outside of his upper thigh on a trip over the barriers and onto the cheadle end concrete, fizzed a shot which their 'keeper just fingertipped over. the ref failed to give a corner, and that was us first half.
as the clock wound down to half time, we gave away a soft corner - the sort that you regret because you often concede from unnecessary ones. the snow had been falling steadily since the middle of the half, and i said to my cousin that if they scored from it, i was going. i knew i had a snowy -and worsening- M62 to deal with, and we would never come back from 2-0. they did nothing from it, but i repeated at the start of the second half that if they scored again i was off. i then spent the next forty minutes annoyed at nuneaton for not scoring. with a one goal margin, i couldn't really go, but the football was absolutely dreadful.
we had moments of playing nice stuff through the middle, but never looked like getting through their back four, and often we gave the ball away abysmally (chief culprits, although there were others, were lewis montrose and danny morton). it just looked a toothless system. as jlc says above, and i've been saying for a while -because it's obvious- however much odejayi just didn't cut it as a lone wolf, a finisher alongside him would benefit from his flicks and round the corner balls. had probably only been on twenty minutes when brewster (who had previously looked completely impotent as he was constantly shouldered off the ball by their defence) latched onto his flick, took it to the keeper's right, and slid it into the unguarded net from an angle. good confident finish like his previous one for us. it's frustrating in that we seem to have some of the conditions of an effective ploy, but it's been passed up previously.
apart from his gaffe, the 'keeper didn't have a great deal to do, although he came and took a couple of crosses well. whaddya know - a right full back at right full back... danny morton was energetic and put in a lot of good tackles. however, in possession, his play was best viewed through your fingers. the centre halves were pretty solid - o'hanlon in particular had his usual steadily decent game. not at all convinced by joe garvin at left back. he's someone i hope we can develop because he has some talent and seems to have a good attitude, but he doesn't seem to me to be offering a great deal in either direction at the moment at left back. the central midfielders chucked themselves into a few tackles, but although rule used the ball better than montrose, neither of them created anything of note. ledsham had a painful looking fall and a good shot, but i've not been seeing enough from him for a while. the forwards were a bit anonymous - marsden showed quick feet a couple of times but leading to nothing, and brewster was just eased off the ball every time he chased it. however, at least we were able to make a substitution which turned up the pressure and made their back four work harder. odejayi announced himself with a cruncher of a tackle, winning the ball; and then won a number of flicks which just seemed to give them something more to worry about.
county did turn up the pressure in the last ten or fifteen minutes, and deserved something from the game. nuneaton were mostly pretty anonymous, but still nearly won it. a draw's better for morale than a defeat, but listening to jon keighren spinning it into an istanbul-like come back (not quite that far, but there was hyperbole) in the car afterwards was highly misleading. the game was mostly dismal, because county's performance was mostly dismal. none of it really matters now apart from in the context of planning for next season. at half time, when i was talking about going, my cousin said we were going to come back and win 2-1. i said i didn't care. i appreciate how that sounds, and yes, actually i would have preferred it if we had staged a thrilling comeback and deservedly beaten nuneaton second half. it's just that at the end of this season, we are still going to be resolutely in this division. at our lowest ever level. not at all excited at the prospect of another 7 home games. i just hope that by the last few, we have a clear direction - something we can buy into and get behind. coming back to draw with nuneaton was just a glimmer, and while passingly heartwarming, it was nowhere near enough.

I always enjoy your reports, ars, because you tell it 100% like it is. I know their main purpose is the venting of your spleen, but I really appreciate you taking the time to write these, mate. Another top quality write-up.

cheers gazz. appreciate it. they turn into 'reports' because there are always sufficient things i'm annoyed about that i can't capture in a paragraph or two. the real skill will come if somebody ever gets us moving in the right direction and i've got nothing to complain about...

Excellent ball, excellent flick on, but the run and touch from Brewster were every bit as classy as the finish.
I really hope we can extend his stay.
