Here's a radical thought.
Name a 'Phoenix' club County FC of Stockport
or just Stockport-this latter idea has never hurt Liverpool?

If we'd have folded in 2009 and started again à la Chester, I'd have probably entertained it, but after all the troughs and bigger troughs of every season since (barring Jim keeping us in the BSP which some people, not on here, conveniently forget) I won't touch a Phoenix club with a f*****g bargepole.
They either save my club, or we wave goodbye to it and I find something else to crush my spirit on a weekly basis.

I agree with Gazza on this. Chances are that any phoenix club would be set up by another bunch of bullsh*tters with the intention of fleecing the football fans of Stockport, who've shown themselves to be ripe for it. Either that or it would turn out to be what the current collection of f*ckwits had planned all along. No thanks. Game over.
I think it's possible to be a football fan without following a specific team, and that's what I would do if we folded. I think most of us are more than halfway there already.

yeah. agree with you both. other than birth in stepping hill, i don't have enough connection to stockport to make me bother travelling from leeds to see a club which isn't county. my connection is to stockport county through my grandad, gran, mum, and now my brother, cousin and a few mates. the county bug has been in my family since 1941, and i've been suffering it since 1978. once it's dead, it's just the sofa and a mild liverpool fetish for me.

And we're seriously lucky to have fans like you, mate, it's a shame the various post-admin owners haven't the same respect for your incredible loyalty as I, and no doubt the rest of my fellow Heaveners have.

i think that's one of the things... a proportion of stockport-based county fans who are fidgeting for some live football and don't want to travel further afield for it might buy into it. however, they're going to lose all the exiles straight away; and if this and other boards are anything to go by, there's quite a lot of us.

Well I have to say I don't agree with everything said here.
I too am an exile, having just lived over half of my 51 years in Birmingham. Although I was born in Manchester I grew up in Stockport and County- like the millinery history, the Mersey, the viaduct and Robinson's- are part of my history. We have lost one of the above, so the club's nickname is now sadly something that refers to a past unlikely to be retrieved. I would rather have the present club continue, notwithstanding its difficulties, but if push comes to shove I would support a Phoenix team called Stockport or County FC-but only Stockport City if we received that charter.
Don't want to lose another part of Stockport.

You make some very good points, collinge, but the last 4-5 years of sh*te have made it far too much to bear having to start again. As I said, had we gone belly up in 2009 with Wembley and the 9-in-a-row still fresh in our minds, it would have been a lot easier for me to get on board with a reformed club. Now, it's either SCFC or bust. I just don't have the passion for football in general like I used to, let alone a phoenix club, which as irony would have it, is exactly how we've been run since coming out of Admin...

It'd be like losing a family member. As succinct as you can get when describing what County means to all of us, mate.

I have to agree with Gazza. It would be difficult to follow a new team without the history and memories (even if my memories are clearly a jumbled mess - I've got all the right memories, just not necessarily in the right order). I'm not bothered enough about football in general to start again. I'd probably end up just following players (like I do with the NFL) rather than having a team. The clincher for me is that nobody could sing 'The Scarf'. I still love County, despite what is being done to it... (Thanks for the instructions on images, Gazza - I hope it was worth it after all that!) Attachments:
