Fitton 2-1 down in sets, 1-1 in legs in the fourth. He needs a break of throw or he's out.

There was a time around 6 or 7 years ago when Fitton could have crossed over to the PDC, scoring big and nailing doubles a lot cleaner than he is today. He doesn't seem to have that consistency at the moment.

I remember one year, possibly 2010, when it was Stockport's Semi-Final with Fitton playing Tony, guaranteeing a Stopfordina Silver medal at least!

Just seen Fitton is out, how come it's only first to 3?

Fitton goes out 3-1. He was poor there, very poor. Never seen so many darts falling an inch or more away from the trebles, he was way off being his best there.

It was 2009 when they met in the semis, matey. I remember Fitton was having a mare and Tony was roaring him on in support to get him to raise his game, brilliant to see that was. Two Stockport lads on national TV, proper sportsmanship that was.

Excellent story mate, truly excellent!
I really hope this is Tony's year, not just because he's a local County fan but also because he really deserves it after so many near misses!

Sorry to ask (I'm not the biggest of darts fans) but what is the difference between the 2 darts you're talking about Gazza? PDC and BDO??

Just seen Fitton is out, how come it's only first to 3? It's the same in the PDC at the first round stage, mate.

It was all under the one organisation up until 1992, when the top players from the BDO formed a rival organisation after frustrations over lack of TV tournaments and money. The best way to explain it is to read this, matey: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Professional_Darts_Corporation

You have to be good to play in the PDC!

Also found this passage on another wiki thread:
The 1993 Embassy World Darts Championship will have a notoriety within the history of World Darts. It was the 16th staging of the competition, but it turned out to be the last time that the sport had a unified World Championship. From 1989 to 1991, the Embassy World Championship was the only darts tournament which had received television coverage, and a group of 16 players (including all previous World Champions) wanted to appoint a PR consultant to improve the image of the game. They created the World Darts Council (WDC), later the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) in late January 1992, soon after a controversial VHS release of the 1992 Embassy World Final between Phil Taylor and Mike Gregory.
By the time of the 1993 Embassy World Championship, the WDC had already held their own tournament, the 1992 Lada UK Classic (won by Mike Gregory) in October 1992. The tournament had been broadcast on Anglia Television, and the WDC players wanted to see their exposure to television coverage increase. During the 1993 Embassy World Championship, the WDC players wore their new insignia on their sleeves. They were soon told to remove them by the tournament organisers, the BDO. The WDC players decided that if they were not going to be recognised by the BDO they would no longer play in the Embassy Championships.
During the tournament, the 16 WDC players released a statement saying that they would only play in the 1994 Embassy World Championship if it came under the auspices of the WDC, and that they only recognised the WDC as having the authority to sanction their participation in darts tournaments worldwide.

Don't get me wrong, Fudgie, I'd love to see it all under one umbrella once again, but the two organisations have become a sad caricature of themselves. The BDO have gone backwards and taken amateurism to an extreme level, and the PDC has become far too big for its boots and gone to extremes in the opposite direction, especially with the type of crowds they attract. You watch your average BDO match, while inferior in quality, the crowds are all respectful of both players and watch every single dart.
The PDC on the other hand, the average match is more often than not of a higher standard, but the crowds are rarely watching the games, they are far too busy swilling beer and acting like tw*ts for the cameras. I loathe the PDC crowds, a large section of them only go to get rat-ar*ed and get seen on telly acting like morons. It is named the 'Professional Darts Corporation', the last bit should be changed to 'Circus'.
The PDC is the best for quality Darts, but it really does need to put a block on some of the idiots that go to the live tournaments, the booing of players when throwing for crucial doubles make me want to kick the telly in sometimes.
I love Darts, and will always watch the BDO while it's still on TV, but I fear its days are numbered unless they get their act together.

Seems a bit like the Premiership breaking away and leaving the other 72 clubs of inferior quality.
