Good afternoon and welcome to the start of the new season!
For those who enjoyed the County Heaven articles last season, you’ll be aware that ‘Big Fudge’ will depart for Vancouver where he’ll be studying for a year. He has therefore kindly passed the responsibility of writing a few words for each programme to myself, Sandbach Hatter, and my esteemed colleague, Hatter in Macc, but you can call us “Sandy” and “Maccy” if you like as everyone else does. I think everyone at County Heaven would like to thank Fudgie for having the inspiration to ask Phil Brennan if he could write for the programme on behalf of County Heaven (and then to write excellent pieces)... but also Phil for letting him!
If you don’t know already, County Heaven is an online forum run by County fans, for County fans. Anyone is welcome to join and in just over a year we’ve amassed more than 300 members. There’s my regular quiz to take part in, the excellent prediction competition run by our very own ‘Down Under’ Hatter, the Limerick competition run by Lennie, not to mention hundreds of other articles ranging from discussions about the latest games, player rumours, and football in general. We also have more ‘off topic’ debates such as what the most tasty bar snack might be, and the best football-related films that never were. There really is something for everyone!
We’re also proud to be the corporate sponsors of Danny O’Donnell for the second season running and we’re always actively looking for new ways to raise funds for the club so if you have any suggestions, sign up and take part.
Right, over to Maccy to discuss the pre-season so far (as he’s been to more games than I have....)

Afternoon, all. I’d better not get off on the wrong foot by exceeding our word-limit! Suffice to say that the friendlies have seen the squad get used to all manner of weather conditions - including monsoon-like ones at Cheadle and Lancaster - and the newly-arrived players settle in against increasingly quality opposition. The serious business starts today, though - and Alfreton, following their excellent campaign last term, which included a highly impressive run of form after Christmas, will be sure to provide us with a stern initial test.
Enjoy the game - and here’s to a successful 2012/13!
