Great work as usual, mate. That first goal was 100%, pure undiluted Sunday League standard, as was the pitch. Half Moon Lane used to look better than that! If it carries on deteriorating, Richard Park will have somewhere else to grow his spuds. Phil Jevons really is a quality penalty taker, another superb spot-kick. Cheers once again, Dan!

I said before, I think he is one of the best penalty takers we've had

I said before, I think he is one of the best penalty takers we've had I can't argue with that, Mally Brown is one that springs to mind as being quality from the spot, & Jimbo too, but Jevons is just so cool. I know he's gone part-time as a personal choice, but we're still lucky to have him to be honest.

I worried that he'd struggle to adapt to the non-league game, I know he did okay at Hyde but lets face it the Conference could be the next tier in the Football League with some of the quality that league has, his first few games were uninspiring but once he got off the mark against Gainsborough I think it was, he really hasn't looked back and has been arguably our best player this season.
I really want Ian Ormson to do well and he does look every now and again like he is turning a corner but he is so accident prone!

I think George Donnelly was the worst penalty taker! A decent forward but I remember he had 3 penalties in his time with us, one was against MK Dons, we were 1-0 up at the time and we missed it and ended up losing 3-1, one was in the Johnstones Paint Trophy against Tranmere Rovers in a shootout, he missed and we lost the shootout and I don't remember the other one but I remember there being 3!

Which is why he was such a poor 1 on 1 finisher for us, Fudgie. The less time he had to think, the more dangerous he was. While with us he seemed to be an instinctive player, and he wasn't cool at all when he had to compose himself first. There were a number of times when he was clean through and fluffed the chance.

surprisingly, luke beckett was pretty poor from the spot for us as well. missed two or three (possibly without scoring, i'm not 100% sure) and then handed the duty on.
the real point from those highlights remains how on earth could he give us that pen (1 min) as the defender didn't have any chance to get out of the way, and how could he not give the one on jevons at 7.15? terrible reffing, even though it sort of balanced out.

Good question, ars. I just think that the officials at this level are f*****g winging it, you'd get a better standard of performance if you asked 'competitive Dad' to referee a Sunday league U11s match.

I thought at the time that it was a pretty harsh penalty to give and didn't see the one at the end properly but the highlights show it to be pretty damn blatant!

I remember Tommy Rowe taking a scandalously terrible penalty at the back end of the 2008-09 season against Walsall!

Another brilliant shout, ifothers. It's amazing how easily it is to get blinded by the Danny years, but that's a top call.
