All I can say is thank heavens we are tenth and not 20th scratching around for points, otherwise we'd be certs for the drop right now.

Moke & Hiward contributed more than Wilkinson. moke and howard contributed more this afternoon to the county cause than wilkinson. i got bored of hoping he might affect a game several weeks ago. maccy's post might explain jack ryan's performance, but did the concussion occur before the match? absolutely f***ing dreadful this afternoon. what actually irks me more than anything, is that if it had been county rather than chorley missing those brilliant early opportunities, we'd have gone on to lose because the opposition would have grown into the game and we'd have already shot our bolt. hirst's first two saves were exceptionally good. the other three or four diving saves he made were good but i'd have expected most county 'keepers to have made them. the first after just a couple of minutes was brilliant and many 'keepers would have got nowhere near it. the second was followed in the same scramble by them hitting the post and then having a further follow up blocked when a goal seemed certain. so far so bad, but when you've ridden that out, you assume that you'll start to get into the game and balance it out a bit. i never thought we had even a five minute spell in which we were controlling things. we didn't make a proper, exciting chance in the whole 94, just hopeful bits and bobs here and there. the passage of play i recall as our best chance of the game was when we played in duxbury in space to cross down the left in the second half. he overhit his cross, but it dropped to jack ryan well past the far post, and with no-one anywhere near him. he totally miscontrolled and the ball got away from him. that was as good as it got. no oohs or ahs - nothing. clearly we were severely affected by injury, as by the end of the match we seemed to be fielding about half of the U14's. the bench was obviously weak (something we've improved on a lot this season), but it was b*ll*cks that the starting 11 (even though that included youngsters as well) couldn't make more of a fist of it. yet again, the midfield (containing wilkinson, russell and moses) had almost no influence on things. the forwards were feeding on scraps but not really making any headway or looking likely to. walking up onto hardcastle road, it felt like a proper football match was about to take place. it's looked deserted on occasion over the last couple of seasons, but today there were away fans queuing, loads of home fans making their way in different directions towards the various turnstiles, and it was a picture from a couple of divisions above. the playing squad and management need to create in these last few games some belief that we will be putting on a challenge next season. make people keen to see what comes next, even though it's hard not to be jaded with all the dross we've faced in the last few years. sunny days and swollen crowds bring out a sense of optimism in me, but that had mostly gone within the first five minutes of the game, and entirely long before the final whistle. i'll be back next season regardless, but we need as many on the journey as we can get, and weakened squad or not, there was nothing to engender any belief today. it was listless and lethargic. we're sleepwalking our way to the close season already. another two and a half hours in the car that would have been pointless but for the company at the game. at least that's decent, but i want a bit more of a saturday afternoon, cos realistically i could just speak to them over the 'phone...

Sounds as if Spenno recovered his fitness for last night... and part of this morning...

Slow, slow, quick, quick, slow, dance moves that could equally be used to describe yesterday's performance, County, County, Chorley, Chorley, County as the pedestrian home side allowed the visitors to waltz there way through the match for an easy win. Had it not been for the heroics of Mr. Hurst in the County goal the score could have been 6-0 instead of the more respectable 2-0 recorded as the final score. I know I've said this before, but early in the season County were playing decent football on the ground but, as the season has progressed they have relied more and more on aimless balls up the pitch, making it simple for the oppositions centre backs to defend. I know you will tell me that today's team was full of school kids, but this isn't just one match, this has been going on since Christmas, since the departure of Milligan. AL said that he would never bring rubbish to County. I don't know what the game looked like through rose-tinted glass on the touch line but from row "G" in the main stand it looked like total rubbish to me. Rose-tinted glasses are for looking at the eclipse not football. Just to put County's position into perspective, we need another 7 points to ensure that we don't get relegated. Time to rebuild for next season. If County are to make a challenge for promotion next season, then I don't expect many faces to appear on the team sheet that were out there yesterday.

Sounds like a bad day at the office all round yesterday.
We can only hope that those in the position to sort all of this out know what to do to make it better.

yes they really were as dominant as they seemed at the time. i can't be 100% on this, but it looks like one of them even tries a 'rabona' in the second half. cheeky f***.

Looking at the video, it would appear that Hurst was stood behind the wall for the first goal, instead of to his left of it. Wide open for the shot.

Either the wall wasn't set properly or Hurst had the wrong side of the goal covered. Looked a soft shot.
The second goal was just one of those things, even the best keepers can be lobbed from a distance (isn't that right Fudge/Macca ??).

My dad pointed out after the game that Hurst was yelling at the wall to move left. They obviously musn't have done and the shot was an easy one.

As a fully paid up member of the goalkeeping union I would say the wall was at fault.

Precisely!
It was Toddy Jr that was stood on that side and personally I think that he was just out of place completely. Hurst was obviously under the impression that the wall was in the correct place and it wasn't. Poor communication by all involved.

General bad day at the office! Thank Goodness for Mr. George Hudson who made it an enjoyable day for our Nordic guests and put on a brilliant spread for them and gave them all access to a private bar!
Very good experience that I know the lads greatly appreciated!

Credit to County for going the extra mile.
