Less than a week until the season starts so time for an update.
Pre-season started back in December but that just turned into a very messy drinking session!
Into January and we started training properly.
Our first team got promoted last year and are going for promotion again.
Our second team (which was my team) have only 5 players left over from last season but have recruited well.
I've taken 14 of that squad (plus others from elsewhere) to form our "brand new" Over 45s team.
We had an inter-club day where the 45s keeper didn't turn up so I went in goal.
The second team's keeper broke four of his toes so I filled in in goal for them as well (not against my team obviously).
I've since found out that my keeper from last season has retired so I'm back between the sticks unless we can get a permanent replacement.
Two friendlies and two wins (including a penalty save from myself) and we go into the season on Sunday against a Premier League side in the Cup.
Bring it on!

Best of luck for the season. My own goal keeping career ended after I let one dribble between my legs and couldn't stop it crossing the line.

Dribbling between your legs ?
Sounds like a health problem.

Note: If this phone replaces 'Excellent' with 'Excrement' just one more time, it's getting flushed down the toilet!

Sounds as if it has been an eventful pre-season, Downy... Here's to a successful campaign-proper. Good luck!

Unfortunately we lost 2-0. A very dubious decision in the first half meant that I was once again facing a penalty. I guessed the right way again but he put it high and wide anyway. Apart from that we restricted them to only a handful of chances in the first half and came off still 0-0.
We pressed up the field too far at the beginning of the second half and got caught on the break. Nothing I could do about the goal. It was a hard and low cross in the "corridor of uncertainty" and a decent finish. We kept pressing for an equaliser and would have got one if the ref had played advantage after one of our strikers was fouled. But he'd already blown his whistle for the free-kick so we had to settle for that.
A change to three at the back for the final 10 minutes meant that we put pressure on them but left ourselves a bit exposed at the back. With only a couple of minutes left another cross came in which the striker had time to control and rifle into the bottom corner.
Really pleased with the overall performance including my own. I might learn to enjoy this goalkeeping lark!
