Latest acquisition, an original 1981 12" copy of Ghost Town by The Specials, in almost mint condition. I'm really pleased with this one, as finding them in this condition at the price I paid really is scarce, so I got lucky. Well, I had it in my wantlist on Discogs and got an alert as soon as it was listed, so I was just quick on the draw. I don't think the photos really do it justice, as it really is in pristine condition. I'm not saying how much I paid, though, but it's nowhere near what you're thinking! 😎

I thought I'd post this, even though I'm still waiting on an answer from a seller in the States regarding the final piece (the 7" picture sleeved version of 'Jungle Music' by Rico & The Special A.K.A.), but I think it's just a matter of time before I manage to get a copy. My 2 Tone collection will (hopefully) continue to grow, but I've always had a specific target regarding the 7" singles, which was to collect all those that were released with the black & white paper 'Walt' labels & their silver injection 'Two-Tone' label counterparts. The silver injection ones will take some doing, especially considering that 'Gangsters' by The Special A.K.A. was only released as a very limited run on this label, as was 'Mantovani' by The Swinging Cats, so these two will be seriously difficult to find for sale anywhere - then there's the price I'd have to pay if I did. For now, here's my 'Walt' label collection so far: It took some effort getting to this point, not to mention serious resolve, as I am only interested in decent copies with decent sleeves, and they've been very hard to come by. Indeed, I've had to pass on a good few 'Near Mint' vinyls, simply because the sleeves were either damaged or seriously discoloured, plus one or two that had what looked like seriously near mint sleeves, but the vinyl was in 'good condition with pops and crackles' at best. What can I say, I'm a fussy bleeder! One more factor that makes the silver injection labels a bit of a minefield, is that some were pressed in France by PolyGram and came with French 'PolyGram' 2-Tone sleeves - I'm not interested in those. I am collecting the 'Made in England' copies with the UK sleeves and, luckily, I know what to look for. I've seen many with English pressings in French sleeves and vice versa, so I've had to be on the ball with these.

I've just noticed something a little weird, and that's every label in the above photo has the song title on top and the artist underneath, except for 'Mantovani' by The Swinging Cats.
Christ, I need help.

I was in Nottingham at the weekend and got to visit one of my favourite record stores, 33 Records. Plus, there was a record fare on, so double jeopardy for my wallet. I pick up quite a few records, including discovering some new bands The 7" were quickly snapped up by my daughter! I loved Octopus and Jocasta at uni and had never heard of WinterKids before - they are bit like Menswear, only better (not difficult, but shows the injustice in the music industry sometimes!) One of the singles came with a CD single version and a fanzine - proper mid 00s pretention!

Next up, 3 records with typed inserts. I had a Manchester North of England T shirt when I was at school (bought from Aflecks Palace), so the compilation brought back lots of memories.

A few more 12". The Train Set were new to me - around in the 90s and from Manchester - they released 2 singles and disappeared. Very pleased with this as the guy knew I was into 90s music and recommended it.

Finally, thinking ahead to Christmas, I got these for my daughter. All four of us saw James at Scarborough a few few weeks ago and are still a family favourite. She'll be delighted with these original releases

And one more... at the record fare I spotted something I didn't know existed - the NME C86 tape on vinyl! I was a joy to behold and to hold.
I looked at the price on the sticker and had a quizzical look on my face. I asked the guy: Does this say £10 or £70? (thinking there is no way it is just a tenner). It says £90, was his reply 😕
Suffice to say, it does still exist, just not in my record collection!

I still have the original C86 cassette, which, on Discogs, looks to sell for a similar sum these days. It cost me four vouchers, cut out from four weeks' worth of NMEs, and a first-class stamp, if memory serves...

Very jealous, macc!
I swing from regretting not getting the vinyl to ninety chuffing quid!

Very jealous, macc! I swing from regretting not getting the vinyl to ninety chuffing quid! I've had purchases like this, Eps. Some have been regretted once I've completed the purchase, but the regret soon faded once I'd had the item for a few weeks. Then there are those I paid for, regretted and still regret, especially when I saw it go for much cheaper a few months later! It's a very fine line between really wanting something you've bought, and wondering if you really wanted it that much!

Yep. Normally, I wouldn't even consider paying that much for a record. But then, it's more than a record, it's a piece of history. Well, maybe next time 🙃
