Jack Reacher number 22: 'The Midnight Line' now completed.
Reacher tracks a female officer's class ring back to its owner in Wyoming after seeing it for sale in a small town pawn shop, simply because he wished to find out why she sold it and what fate befell her.
An excellent read which should be the next movie, assuming there is going to be another movie, of course.
Having now caught up with all of the Jack Reacher novels, with number 23: 'Past Tense' not out until November, I've now got to find something else to read. To pass some of the time while looking, I'm now working my way through 'No Middle Name', which is a collection of the Jack Reacher short stories.

The Peterloo massacre by the late Joyce Marlow. It's a reprint of a book published in 1970 and is a great introduction to the subject. As we approach the 200th anniversary I've little doubt there will be others but this is a good place to start for anyone with a passing interest in political history.

Excellent, if not old news! countyheaven.freeforums.net/post/132039/threadSeriously, though, it's good that he's wanting his readers to help him choose the right lead. However, I still don't get this ''casting" of Cruise story that keeps being churned out by various articles, because he was effectively 'cast' by himself after he personally negotiated the film rights with Lee Child - him playing the lead role was always part of the deal.

Too short of stature or talent?

Too short of stature or talent? I'm not Tom Cruise's biggest fan, but some of his movies have been excellent and nobody can deny the bloke's commitment to his projects when performing many of his own stunts. Some of his better movies are: The Color Of Money A Few Good Men (although Jack Nicholson is the class of the field in that one) Mission Impossible (original movie), with the others (barring the ridiculously over-the-top shite that is MI:2) being worth watching for the stunts alone! Collateral (possibly his best) Edge Of Tomorrow While nothing like the Reacher in the books and with the movies not being completely faithful to their respective books (the second one has been changed quite a lot from the book), I do think the movies are okay, with the first being the better of the two. However, I'm also glad that Lee Child has pulled the plug on his stint in the role and is taking the series to 'TV' - hopefully with someone more visibly intimidating and closer to the books' description of Reacher in the lead role. I just have my reservations regarding him polling his readers for ideas, because he himself has already been asked who would be closest to his perfect image of Jack Reacher and his answer was Lawrence Dallaglio - so maybe he should get to have the final say on who it should be? Having said that, Ian Fleming didn't want Sean Connery when he was first cast as James Bond for Dr No, but we all know how wrong he was on that one. Indeed, he even ended up giving 007 a Scottish heritage as a nod to the Scotsman's portrayal! I'm going to start a new thread on this, to let everyone post their suggestions of the ideal actor to play Reacher.

Jack Reacher number 23: 'Past Tense' now completed. An excellent read, but going into it even vaguely would give away too much of the story, so I can only recommend it to any Reacher fan as a superb addition to the series. I'm now waiting on 'Memory Man' by David Baldacci, as I'm buggered if I'm waiting until November for the next Reacher book! Incidentally, Child and Baldacci have 'previous', with the latter having his own book series that is a blatant rip-off of the former's Reacher character. I'm too tired to explain, so feel free to Google 'Jack Reacher John Puller' - I think you can see where the beef is with that small clue!
