Nope, not a poor 'Friends' spin-off, but the latest in our series of A-Z collections on County Heaven:
County Heaven's Ultimate Music Soundtrack
Music, as we all know, forms a large part of our discussions on CH, and I thought it was about time we had our own CD (metaphorically speaking, as it'd be a nightmare to actually get the rights to try and make it for real).
It will work in a similar way to CHIEF and CHUF - each week will focus on a letter from A-Z in order, and on the Monday I will start the thread off by suggesting a handful of artists or bands beginning with that letter. I'll try to keep it varied, so it won't necessarily be to my tastes (for example, I best stick ABBA in for week A, and Queen for week Q, but can't stand either). This is only intended to be a guide, and Heaveners are welcome to suggest alternatives, but bear in mind it'll be the artist or band who gathers the most votes at the end of the week that goes into the collection so there's not much point in choosing that obscure thrash metal band beginning with X that you lost your virginity to back in 1992. Well, we might like to hear the story, but don't expect them to make the CD.
As much as anything, the idea is to spark debate and attract any amusing stories so, in that respect, consider it a musical CHAOS if you will.
At the end of each week, I'll tot up the votes and, in the event of a tie, I'll have the casting vote. I'll try to go with whichever band or artist I think fits the general feel of the CD. I won't be counting my own vote unless there's a tie, but might chip in with a story every now and then.
Week X is likely to be a 'pot luck' week of some variety that I'll announce nearer the time. Perhaps we'll save it until the end and have a 'best runner up' week.
After the 26 weeks, I'll then reveal the full list of winners, together with a run down of what are considered the biggest and most memorable tracks from each artist/band - I'll aim for around 3-5 per winner unless a 'one-hit wonder' happens to be included. There will then be a final (secret) vote via PM, before I'll announce which tracks have made it onto our 26 song (two discs of 13 tracks!) compilation.
Gazza might even be persuaded to mock up some artwork for it if we ask him nicely.
