"An old-fashioned centre forward" - AL
There was a name on every County fans lips on Saturday following the opening friendly win against Northwich Vics.
Chris Sharp was the talk of the town following his sparkling display which was capped by his first half winning goal.
Alan Lord wasted no time following the match to secure the services of the 28 year old forward who is the son of the former Everton and Scotland legend Graeme.
As Chris was unveiled at Edgeley Park on Tuesday he revealed that he has history with the County boss "A couple of weeks into the close season I heard that there was a chance of joining County. Lordy already knows me well as he was instrumental in taking me to Motherwell previously. I was also getting pushed by Sean Newton who kept telling me to get to Stockport as Lordy wanted me. To be fair Newts owed me a favour as I had introduced him to Alan in the first place.
It's a massive club to play for at this level. When you see a club getting 3 to 4,000 fans in the Conference that's where players should want to play their football. So when I knew the club might be interested, I thought....Come on!"
Chris knows exactly what he wants from his time at Edgeley Park "I just want to get back to enjoying my football. I set myself my own little personal targets and obviously want to be scoring goals but it is also important to me to enjoy playing.
From the training sessions I have done so far and the opening friendly I can see that there is a lot of quality here, I have played against players like Scott Spencer and Milly in the Conference. There is also a good group of young players and that gives energy to the squad".
Manager Alan Lord's view on Chris is that he is "the 'old fashioned' type of centre forward who has the ability to score goals, stretch opposition defences with marauding runs and provide the balance of Style that will fit the attributes of Spencer, Dennis and Woolfe".
Welcome to Stockport County, Chris.
