The original legend. No cheating, no diving, no fouling, no swearing, no arguing with referees - just pure, unadulterated footballing talent and integrity.
RIP, the black pearl.

Imaging the place he would have had if all the present day TV and hype had been around in the 60's.
A truly brilliant person, on and off the field.
RIP Pele.

Imaging the place he would have had if all the present day TV and hype had been around in the 60's. A truly brilliant person, on and off the field. RIP Pele. Exactly, mate. Along with Maradona, Pele got the absolute proverbial kicked out of him with zero protection from the rules or the officials, so having to deal with that and still play at the levels they did, puts those two above all others in my view. I've always said that Diego was the most talented footballer I've ever seen play the game, but when you take into account talent, integrity, sportsmanship, humanity, respect for his peers, the respect he received in return, his achievements in the game and his legacy, then Pele must surely be considered the greatest of them all - without question.

'Escape to Victory' showing on Channel 5 as I write - featuring the great man, and a host of other footballing cameos.
