A most welcome... erm, development! And definitely a step in the right direction.
Cheers for the link, Sagey.

Not sure about this, at our level it could prove pointless. Because depending on the wage structure we'll have next season, we could be powerless to stop even conference national clubs from coming in and taking our best kids before they even kick a first team ball. We shouldn't have been in a situation where we had to ditch the CofE in the first place. I'd sooner focus all available money on getting a decent first team squad and get the f**k out of this pub league. No, that is not a Bill big b*ll*cks statement, because I know we're a pub team ourselves, I just think it's about time we stopped being one.
I personally feel we're too low in the system to have this work for us, but what do I know. I hope I'm wrong.

It'll be good for trialists and recovering from injury and players making the step up from the youth team!
Can't see us entering any competitions though, possibly Cheshire and Manchester cup but nothing serious, correct decision or not at least it shows the clubs ambition is in the right place!

I know where you're coming from, Fudgie, but it's a clear question of timing and priorities for me. We have most of our squad on non-contract terms, are odds-on to lose players like Jacobs & we can't even afford a groundsman, so where's the money coming from to run this?
No thanks, I want the kitchen sink throwing at getting out of this division, anything less and we could end up looking at a third season at this level.
That is unacceptable.

Good idea as we need to be developing players to eventually sell on and bring some spondoolies into the club like Crewe did amazingly well. Who have we sold this season ; just one player.
The c of e should never have been closed. Ver short sighted and should eventually if done right should pay for itself.
We need reserve teams to get players match fit so they can complete a full 90 mins playing quality football.... Yes quality ;
If AL does step aside in the future he is ideally placed to run this and make into something special. Not bothered about the cost as now Ryan is going the club will be going on full throttle to generate proper incoming revenue streams something you would think he should have been doing.

If this compromises next season's budget in any way, will it still be seen as a good idea to introduce it now?
Not being facetious in any way, it's a genuine question to everyone.

The article says the costs are 'negligible', but then again so is our first team budget. In theory I think it's a good idea and should boost players' match fitness. It should also provide AL with better evidence on which to judge players. However, I'm not sure if half decent pros dropping down the league would appreciate having to have a 'trial' with the development squad. It has been mentioned elsewhere that we need to recruit better older players who have played at a higher level. I'm not sure this will fix that. I wonder if Steve Bellis and Kickworldwide have anything to do with it? If not, it's right up his street in encouraging grassroots football. Our track record in signing decent players isn't exactly great this season, so anything that might improve that is worth a go.

we could end up looking at a third season at this level. That is unacceptable. yeah. i think the novelty might well have worn off by then! if it allows squad players/unused subs/trialists to get matches, then i'm all for it. it probably works given AL's development skills. all good, as long as it doesn't impact on our other meagre resources.

If it was down to me I'd let Lordy look after and be fully responsible for the Development Squad and..............
