Back to EP we go on Tuesday night - seeking a first-ever win against the 'Lions' of Guiseley, for whom ex-Hatters Big Kay, Kaine Felix and Andy Halls all currently ply their trade.
Post your 'mane' thoughts here...

We've previously struggled to deal with teams who use a long throw as one of their main attacking weapons and this game will likely be a test to see if we're any better at it this season. Given JG said we're lacking in physicality and size at the fans' forum, we can only hope! Guiseley can use Heaton from either side of the pitch to launch throws into our box so it'll likely fall on Palmer, Smalley and Keane to deal with it and for the other players to be alert for the second ball.
With the likes of Felix to call on to run the wing at 100mph, I wouldn't expect Cowan, even with his pace, to be out of position at LB in this one. Hopefully, with the opportunity to train, Askew will be ready to play LB and give some natural balance to that side of defence.
Other than that, it sounded from commentary that Dimaio and his dad were disappointed with his lack of game time so far. Perhaps we'll be seeing him in contention for a starting spot soon, especially given he has made an impact off the bench. Unlike last season, at least there's creativity beyond Warburton. I remember posting in March before the BPA game that Mulhern looked good and that he was able to play off a striker too, so options are a bit more varied this season in the search of the 'formula' that works best at home and away.
Three points but perhaps a tight one. (Cue it ending 4-3)

Good afternoon from FACTland FACT fans...
Kick off to be delayed by 30 minutes due to the Guiseley team bus getting stuck on the M6 after yet another accident between junctions 18 - 19 The co-commentator makes a really bad pun about Warburton scoring goals to earn a crust after he scores his first goal of the night in the 11th minute Gazza to be in 2 minds about going to the game but then after arriving home 10 minutes late has to eat a cold tea and is grounded for the night by "her indoors"! After a woeful performance Maccy tweets "Substitution, Hardly a Lions shift tonight more like Felix the cat as Kaine is replaced" in the 63rd minute The referee takes the ball right in the family jewels from a deflected pass and drops like a stone in the 81st minute. County win 4 - 0

Andy Halls was one of my favourites -- always got stuck in and gave his all. It's a shame he's now reached our level. I hope he gets a warm reception.

As does Big Kay, if he plays. Interesting, though, to see that Guiseley are using Halls as a centre-half thus far. Personally, I would have needed a lot of convincing that he was suited to playing in that position - but we shall see...!

Kick off to be delayed by 30 minutes due to the Guiseley team bus getting stuck on the M6 after yet another accident between junctions 18 - 19 only if they've been to west midlands safari park for the afternoon, CF. otherwise they'll be stuck on the M62, east of the pennine way bridge with me just behind them.

I came away feeling it was a point gained (on the night's performance) rather than two points dropped. After a strong start from us, they got hold of the game and were playing to their strengths well. We had a period around, and after ,our goal, and ended with some corners, but they probably have more of the game than us and their play 'made sense' while ours seemed haphazard and as if one of our main tactics was Hinchliffe hitting super-long balls! Big K pretty much had his own way for most of the match - the moaners in the Main Stand when he was with us suddenly appreciated what he does! He was too strong, too experienced and even too fast for our makeshift central defence. He was involved in their goal, using his body to let the ball run near the corner flag after a throw, thus ending with himself facing goal rather than back to goal as he should have been kept. Their left winger ran into the penalty box untracked and found Felix, playing the other wing, who slotted home. It was one of those 'slow motion' type of goals where everyone goes passive and it just 'happens' to us. Aside from the goal, there were several examples of us being all over the shop from throws - mostly not even the long ones, although one long one near the end bounced its way through the penalty box, somehow avoiding being tapped in. Guiseley had a golden opportunity to get a second, again via Felix, but Hinchliffe saved well. It really should have sealed the game for them though given the quality of the chance. Hinchliffe's other work was mostly dealing with things from distance. Walker was our big plus tonight. With not forcing their 'keeper to do much (if anything?!), his FK at least got us a point and he was rightly (in my view) given MOTM for his overall performance. Dimaio was the other positive. He has excellent feet and possesses the kind of quality that few have in this league. The shape seemed a struggle again - Askew couldn't really provide much of a left side as he was vulnerable to Felix and had to foul him several times when they countered. With Stephenson trying to work off and with Mulhern, it brings all defenders bunched in as well as midfielders removing space for Warburton. Our best hope as the clocked ticked seemed to be Hinchliffe launching balls long (JG telling him for not going long enough!) in the hope something would come of it. It was a bit like a movie you put on for another viewing only to realise the same thing happens as when you watched it last year. Anyway, this seems a nice way to end:

It was one of those 'slow motion' type of goals where everyone goes passive and it just 'happens' to us. It was a bit like a movie you put on for another viewing only to realise the same thing happens as when you watched it last year. all of your post really, but those^ two bits in particular.
very frustrating. didn't enjoy it much. so i didn't really watch it very closely. instead, my brother and i talked about eighties music, and i sang bits of 'see those eyes' by altered images, 'let me go' by heaven 17, 'rip it up' by orange juice and various others to him because he couldn't remember most of them, being 4 years younger than me, and 5 when the decade rolled in. this isn't very interesting for anyone, but if you weren't at the game, i'm just boring you so you can get some of the flavour of tonight at edgeley park. call it a service.
they should have buried us first half. as herm says, we were completely static and passive for their goal. worryingly, they kept ripping into us. i don't know if any of you (apart from duds!) watched the athletics euro champs? when kaine felix streaked past our defence and left them looking like they were running through treacle/carrying fridges etc, i showed my brother dina asher-smith's anchor leg in the women's 4x100 in which she had one of those bolt type spurts, accelerating away from the competition like she was wearing rocket boots. well tonight the floundering behind looked even worse. hinchliffe had to make a very good block rushing out, they just seemed to be ripping into us. if it had gone to two i think it would have been all over.
we were better second half - in that we scored, clipped the outiside of the post, and forced more corners. we still weren't any good. when walker and warburton were standing over the free kick, i thought that what we needed was to be bailed out by i assumed warburton sticking one in the top corner and getting us on par. i didn't really see how we were going to get back into it otherwise. the 'otherwise' was that walker took it instead and dropped it into the bottom corner. i quite like that we've got two competent free kick takers and you're not necessarily sure who's going to have it.
their 'keeper dealt with another walker free kick, to put it kindly, very unconventionally. look out for it on the highlights lennie and tut. we had a load of corners near the end but didn't come particularly close to scoring. the men of the match were on their side. felix and odejayi were a nuisance, and i thought their number five was very good - strong, good in the air, seemed positionally decent, and just able to ease people like stephenson off the ball.
i want county to play convincing football. we had a makeshift (which i accidentally typoed as 'makeshit' at first, and considered leaving out of appropriateness) defence, i appreciate that; but we're going to have to be consistently very good at EP if we want to be pushing for promotion.
all motorways appear to be in a new cycle of repair too. oh well. at least that means that as well as me, the guiseley team and supporters will also have had to head west to prestwich and whitefield, before slingshotting round (J18 - simister island must be the most overengineered junction in the world), losing lanes near rochdale, before a full closure at J27. fun, fun, fun til my daddy took the t-bird on the uk motorway network.

Cheers for the reports, guys. I listened on County Player -- or tried to. The service has hit new lows this season. A total rip-off.
Sounded like we were going long all the time again. We don't have the right players to do that, the opposition centre backs win every ball and it's a complete waste of time. Reminds me of the Chorley playoff game: Very dispiriting.
Also, I love innovative modern tactics and all that great stuff, but why can't we just play four at the back and try to build a familiar and solid foundation? There's still plenty of tinkering and cleverness to be had with midfield and attacking shape. Jim's desire to switch between three and four at the back several times during the game is even influencing selection: Minihan is a right back. He's not an attacking threat. We've got better attacking wingers / wide forwards.
I wonder whether it'd be possible to put Stephenson on a contract where he only gets paid if he successfully completes a pass, beats a defender or has a shot on target?
Probably not a terrible result considering we've lost three of our defenders to injuries within a week. It's nice for Downing to get his first start. I just think this is a make-or-break season for Jim and for many players in the squad. So far, it all feels very familiar. We need to step up.

It's getting to the point where I'm thinking of ducking out of midweek games. I finally got home from York at 1.30am after finding the A1M northbound closed and then j41 M6 closed. Not too bad last night other than that a multiple HGV accident on the M61 had closed two lanes

Thanks for the reports fellas, and ARS if he did go through like Dina then it was an impressive turn of pace. Admittedly against poor opposition (which would be us )
