Afternoon, all.
Downy is taking a break from Heaven for an as-yet-unknown spell - so, by way of some end-of-season tidying-up, I am totting up our cumulative scores from last term's monthly competition, which will appear on this thread shortly.
I shall also, on the separate, relevant thread, attempt to calculate and announce how we all fared in Downy's Big, Big Prediction Game for 2017/18 - so watch that space, too...
Your friendly neighbourhood admins are keen that Downy's Prediction Game, as an integral part of this forum, should continue as the new campaign begins. If anyone would like to take on responsibility for running it - whether alone, or with the assistance of others - please let us know!
Cheers,
Macc

First off, then, the story of how last season went, month by month - beginning, logically enough, with...
August
Hermann was our first monthly winner, pipping Macc Junior on the tie-break guess, with three other Heaveners in close pursuit.
Top five:
=1. Hermann - 11 =1. Macc Junior - 11
=3. Sandy - 10 =3. Lennie - 10 =3. County_fan - 10

September
The first of two months that included some teasers set by yours truly. Both Macc family members, as coincidence would have it, fared well with podium places - me in third (15 points) and Junior as runner-up (17) - but the principal beneficiary was Market Harborough, whose 18 points were to be equalled on two later occasions, but never beaten, as a monthly haul.
Cumulative top five:
1. Macc Junior - 28 2. Mhh - 26
=3. Lennie - 24 =3. Maccy - 24
5. Sandy - 21

October
Setting the fixtures for predicting had the opposite effect on my performance the following month, as I scraped together a paltry four points to finish bottom of the pile. At the opposite end of the table, Gazz took the honours on the tie-break with 13 points, ahead of Ceefer - with Macc Junior coming in third, to complete a hat-trick of podium finishes and retain the overall lead.
Cumulative top five:
1. Macc Junior - 40 2. Mhh - 37 3. Lennie - 33 4. County_fan - 31 5. Ceefer - 30

November
Gazz-man got into his stride with a second monthly win on the bounce. No need for a tie-break this time, either, as his 14 points were enough to see off closest challengers Archie (12) and a thankfully-recovering Hatter in Macc (11). Macc Junior finished outside the medal places for the first time, and had to be content with sharing the overall lead as Market Harborough drew level.
Cumulative top five:
=1. Macc Junior - 47 =1. Mhh - 47
3. Gazz-man - 43 4. Lennie - 41 5. Ceefer - 40

December
The ever-consistent Lennie - not out of the top five since the season's start - rounded off the calendar year to win in December with the campaign's second haul of 18 points, followed, one point behind, by Eppers, me and new overall leader Market Harborough in a three-way tie for the runners-up position.
Cumulative top five:
1. Mhh - 64
=2. Lennie - 59 =2. Macc Junior - 59
4. Maccy - 56
5. Gazz-man - 55

January
Lennie repeated his end-of-old-year winning feat with a start-of-new-year one, albeit this time on the tie-break - after he, Macc Junior, Hermann and County_fan were tied on 13 points.
Cumulative top five:
1. Mhh - 76
=2. Lennie - 72 =2. Macc Junior - 72
4. Gazz-man - 67
5. Maccy - 66

FebruaryA generally low-scoring month - but a good one for me, as my 13 points proved just enough to pip my real-life son (Junior), my brother from another mother (Sandy) and my favourite uncle (Lennie ), who registered a round dozen apiece. Cumulative top five: 1. Mhh - 87 =2. Lennie - 84 =2. Macc Junior - 84 4. Maccy - 79 =5. Eppers - 75 =5. Sandy - 75

March
Dudley dominated the penultimate month - without even having to rely on a tie-break that featured his local Brummie Blues, as he chalked up a whopping 18 points, two ahead of closest challengers Archie and long-time overall leader Market Harborough.
Cumulative top five:
1. Mhh - 103 2. Macc Junior - 99 3. Lennie - 95 4. Maccy - 89 5. Ceefer -88

April
And so to the final month, which saw your reporter sneak a second monthly win, on 16 points - one ahead of Archie, who scored a clean seven-out-of-seven sweep in the very last week.
But what did it all mean for the overall standings? Could Market Harborough be caught?
