The Breeders are fantastic. Kim Deal is one of my favourite singers and The Pixies are one of my all time favourite bands.
The Pixies live at the G-Mex in June 1991 is the best gig I've been to by a country mile. Right at the end they turned the lights up and as everyone was leaving they played Tame as a second encore. The rush to the front was crazy. I had ringing ears and a sore throat for days!
(They were supported by a band called Cud who were also pretty good).

never saw the pixies, which is an odd omission, cos i saw virtually everybody else i ever liked. still have the odd listen - 'hey' in particular is still one of my absolute favourites.
saw the breeders once. i loved 'pod' and the 'safari' ep, but got a bit bored of them after that. 'off you' is great though, kim's drowsy voice on it is brilliant.
i remember cud as well, but they were never particularly my cup of tea. oddly, i've never been to g-mex, even though i've been to loads of gigs in manchester...probably nearly as many as leeds.

seen a couple of those. i quite liked julianna's blake babies incarnation, particularly the dinosaur jr cover, 'severed lips'. pale saints cried off with the 'flu when we were already at the venue, so instead of a saints/boo radleys co-headline, we just got boos.
saw the auteurs in '93 and they were shocking, although i had a lovely demo of 'junkshop clothes' at the time. have you read any of his books? i really enjoyed 'post everything: outsider rock and roll'.

I've not read any of his books, ars, but I'll look them up. Like you I love my music and could talk about it and read about it all day. Oh and listen all day!
The Boo Radleys are another fave, especially Giant Steps. Never saw the Boo's live unfortunately.
My list only included the more obscure stuff. I didn't mention bands like Neds, Echobelly, Teenage Fanclub, etc
(How long do you think before Sandy changes this thread to 'The ars and epworth musical geek show'?)

saw the boos supporting dinosaur jr as well. that was pretty good. 'giant steps' was great, they started alright with 'ichabod and i' and then 'everything's alright forever' was them feeling their way towards 'giant steps' and i liked it. then they went stupid.
saw the fannies a couple of times as well - the first was best because it was touring 'a catholic education' so it was stuff like 'god knows it's true' and the still f***ing brilliant 'everything flows'. i've posted the snubtv version of the latter before so if you didn't see it at the time you might have spotted it on here. if not, have a look!
i was pretty into sonic youth and from them pavement, and then from them various inferior versions like polvo and drop nineteens. next it was guided by voices and lots of lo-fi. galaxie 500, silver jews. smog. broken social scene. arab strap...but it's pointless...a few signifiers don't properly scratch the surface.

well the book i mentioned is exactly as sourly funny as you'd expect from him. it's partly the story of the end of the auteurs/bbr/various other haines projects, partly self-mythologising, and partly silly and surreal. there's a brit-pop one that came out earlier that i'll have to mop up in my next expedition down the amazon!

and just for the sake: five best live performances
pavement supported by belly at sheffield leadmill, july '92. best. gig. ever. pavement touring 'slanted and enchanted'.
sonic youth/pavement/huggy bear at brixton academy december '92.
sparklehorse, leeds cockpit, 1998 touring the fantastic 'good morning spider'
flaming lips plus assorted costumes/balloons/normally unwanted frippery, leeds uni 2000-ish
devendra banhart (yeah. it surprised me as well) leeds city varieties, 2005-ish. the best pure 'show' i've ever seen, probably. member of the audience gets to play a song, band comes out to play in the alley by the venue afterwards, etc, etc.
oh...my bloody valentine on the 'rollercoaster' tour. that obvious trick in 'you made me realise' of having twelve minutes of pulverising white noise...when the riff crashed back in, it was the greatest thing ever.
that's six and obviously it's not enough. i will get (more) boring quickly though if i'm not very careful.

I've installed a Soundcloud plugin, archie, try reposting those tracks again. I thought it would be handy, so here's a test track to see if it works:

Bingo! Saves navigating away from CH to play them.

No idea either. I just pressed 'Control c' and 'Control v' - no more and no less!
'Tis a mystery!
(And I'm not on twitter, so very rarely use '#'!)
