If it's Tuesday, it must be another attempt to play Boston!
The EP pitch has apparently been worked into better shape, and hopefully won't have been overly saturated by yesterday's snow. Would certainly be good for the game to go ahead this time, building on the momentum from yesterday's win - so, fingers crossed!
Post all the usual malarkey here...

Having been 3-0 up at half-time and 4-2 at 87 minutes they must be smarting a little from Saturday (against FCUM at home).
Could be a high scoring game on Tuesday.

Late winner, chicken dinner !
Chorley beat Spennymoor, so we are up to 7th !!! Chorley game in hand , Spennymoor 4 (four) games in hand.
But, 9 games in which to save the season. On present form, York and Kidderminster are catchable. Need to keep an eye on Southport.

A pretty terrible game but always a nice feeling to get a late winner and see utterly naff time-wasting opponents go home with nothing.
There was decent balance to our side in terms of how it 'looked' on the field - we had potential crosses, players who could go get the ball off the back line, pace and goalscorers... but there seemed very little understanding of how to progress the ball effectively. Too many balls went back to front and conceded possession and although we were running the ball, little was being worked into opportunities. We had an early chance from a corner - nice ball in from Dux was met by Ball with the flick. All that was lacking was having someone cover the back post on the basis a near post flick is likely to head that way. A few minutes later, Turner controlled excellently from a Hinchliffe kick. Duxbury crossed for Oswell and his athletic attempted put it over.
We had a few bits and bobs in the way of free kicks - Warburton wanted to take them was being told "Do your job" which left it for Thomas, who didn't really put in anything of note. Warburton eventually got on one (which he wasn't meant to) and hit the target.
Boston's main chances came from our gifts and that's a big problem still as better teams will be able to score such chances. In the 2nd half alone, Stott got too tight leaving them through on goal for a Hinchliffe save, Clarke missed his clearance completely in another and Cowan was very slow to deal with a ball near the corner flag leaving him to be brushed off and their player running into the box and hitting the near post. Beyond that, they got in a few crosses from Cowan's side but nothing really came of it. If they had put as much effort into trying to score as they did into embarrassing stuff (timewasting) then they probably would have gone home with a point.
We had more bits and bobs but some pretty basic passes were being overhit or hit too wide for players who would have been in a position to have a decent effort. However, our game was upped when Ball made an excellent steal after tracking back half the pitch. It lifted him and he started looking the part, impacting things as we all hope he can do across games. Stephenson's introduction was much needed and brought a bit of sparkle at the top end. Ultimately it was he who got the ball across and, after some involvement from Oswell, Warburton was on hand to bury it before he jumped into the crowd and got booked for his celebration.
So, a disciplined performance from all and we avoided wasting our own time or losing our own focus by arguing with the ref about the opponent's game plan. I think that was key because it could easily have ended a stalemate or worse if we had started playing into their hands. I think it's safe to say that there's no way we can afford the silly errors against teams who fancy winning a game of football but tonight there's at least some satisfaction that we've got all 3 points when not playing very well.

bloody hell, that was awful. two poor teams playing poor football in front of a crowd, which while sparse, was still more than they deserved. only one team was trying to win it though - the other started wasting time in the first half, and picked it up in the second to ridiculous proportions.
we had a few efforts first half - a low shot from warburton saved by their 'keeper, a jimmy ball header, and oswell jumping to volley with his instep, just clearing the bar. we looked a bit vulnerable to their long balls though - there was a period where everything seemed to drop uncontested to their forward. fortunately they were mostly slow to support him.
second half their 'keeper made a decent save from a volley, but we weren't creating much. the 'keeper was going to ground every time he took a catch and pretending to take knocks, limping around. if he retrieved the ball he'd do it at slow walking pace, always after standing still and shouting at team mates for a bit, and always taking it back to the opposite side of the six yard box for his kick, then delaying that as much as possible. the ref was pathetic, playing into his hands by fussily making him reposition the ball by a couple of yards for a free kick after he'd already taken an age over it. when their first sub was made, their player started walking towards the pop side initially. the ref was well on top of everything being taken from the exact position all night, and fussily booking warburton for his goal celebration, but never getting to grips with the time wasting, giving them carte blanche to continue.
the only good bit of the night was in the remaining time following the goal, the 'keeper was sprinting for everything like he'd been electrocuted, to loud jeers from the county fans. he pushed a steward who had deliberately thrown the ball past him rather than to him, and unfortunately a few county fans threw things at him. of course the ref then added five minutes injury time, rewarding boston for their embarrassing tactics. would have been a disgrace if they'd equalised in that time. the most negative side i've seen in a while.
no stand out performances in any blue shirts. if there was to be a winner, then it was right that it was county, but it wasn't like we were turning up the pressure before the goal. our poor play, boston's tactics and the ref not dealing with them saw to that.
we're not a play-off side on the last few performances i have seen, albeit i didn't brave the weather on saturday. 7th is not a success, and it's a very tough ask from a seventh placed finish. eighth or ninth better represents what we've become during the season, and i know it's dreadful to say so, but i would rather finish somewhere that best reflects our season because then we know exactly where we stand over the summer and what we need to do. this season is a bust, and no amount of lucky heather will say otherwise.
