Did anybody else notice Oswell and Dixon debating who would take the penalty? I would have thought Oswell should take it given he is the striker. I did notice that after Dixon had scored it, Oswell walked away and didn't celebrate or congratulate Dixon. Hope it doesn't cause any upset in the dressing room. I thought that was pretty poor too, mate. If anyone deserved to take that, though, it was Stephenson whose trickery won the spot kick - he should have been allowed to take it for me. Having said that, the penalty taker should be set in stone and confirmed in the pre-match team talk - I would imagine Oswell to have been that guy. Dixon probably saw an opportunity in a 'less important' game to chance his arm, but I still think it was pretty poor.

Yes - it was a strange one, that. Dixon had gone close with a couple of shots shortly beforehand, so I don't know whether he was simply gagging to put one in the net! But, with Warburton out, Oswell was, I thought, the first-choice penalty-taker - having already converted from the spot against Spennymoor last month. And, of course, another goal for Oswell would have kept him well on track to finishing this season as the NLN's top scorer.
But, when all is said and done, no one player is more important than the team. And Dixon scored. Hopefully, the two players have had a word about it since, and all is now well. Jim, for his part, played the matter down in his post-match interview.

I didn't catch the post match interview, it just got me thinking about the Benteke indicent when he grabbed the ball and missed the spot kick. Dixon for me only seems interested when he's running with the ball at his feet or shooting. Doesn't seem to work hard and gets caught in possession too easily and his passing is generally poor. It irks me when someone is lazy for the best part and grabs the glory.

Yep - certainly wasn't condoning Dixon, when there were more compelling reasons for Oswell to take the kick. And I shudder to think what sort of debate might have ensued had the penalty been missed! Hopefully, though, all concerned will now just move on. And, as Gazz states, it should be made absolutely clear in the changing room before the match who would take any penalties while the first-choice taker remains unavailable.

Not really bothered who takes it so long as the ball ends up in the back of the net. Think Ormson could have put that away as well

Think Ormson could have put that away as well In all fairness as long as the ball hits the back of the net I don't care who takes the spot kick, but I do care about bickering over who takes it beforehand. Shows lack of professionalism and isn't good for the team spirit.

It irks me when someone is lazy for the best part and grabs the glory. Given his athletic profile and ability (and I do think he has ability), I can see why he got a shot at pro but has found himself flitting around non-league. Unfortunately, losing the ball and making no effort to help his team by either winning it back or recovering into shape is a long-standing trait. However, he can work hard on and off the ball like he did from the sub's bench against Salford. In this last game, he's the one charging back at the end to try to challenge the excellent run from the Kiddy player. Grabbing the glory rings true though if you're working hard once you've scored, as he did in both. One thing that made me smile was that, earlier in the season, when it was bordering on embarrassing with his lack of effort, his agent was tweeting his stats of 5 in 8 (3 CSC against Cheadle Heath and a FAT goal). When Lloyd's agent was doing the same the previous year, Lloyd was literally the main man of the attack. I would reckon plenty would still be happy with Stopforth as a #10 ahead of Dixon... so a fair bit to do to impress overall, eh?! I suppose the good thing about players like Dixon is that if he's not scoring then the lack of workrate makes it easy to drop him because we're all asking "why is he even in the team?" On the other hand, players like Oswell, Warburton and Stopforth put in a hell of a shift regardless of the outcome for them personally which is why, when they don't score, we can still see their impact on many games. On the penalty, it did look poor to see Oswell not being given the penalty having been the player to step in before when Warburton wasn't on the pitch as our designated taker. For me, if you aren't designated to take a penalty but want to take it, then work harder to score a goal in the first place!
