Greetings from EP, where, just for a change after all those Tuesday night fixtures, we find ourselves playing on a Saturday afternoon!
Welcome also to a County Heaven article with a bit of a twist, as Sandy is today concentrating on the football side while I bring you news of things that happened on the way to the forum...
With the last weekend having been match-free, Heaveners have found a variety of topics to which they could devote their thoughts and banter. Some have been method-acting as desert island castaways and listing their fave discs or (for the foodies among us) dishes. Others - meaning those not too vain to admit their age - have researched how County, and the world in general, fared during the season in which they were born. Cricket, by way of an early sign that spring is around the corner, has also made a guest appearance. And - as is wont to happen on Heaven every now and then - debates have re-ignited about who really were the best Bonds and Bond girls. I need hardly add that there’s STILL no consensus!
From this week, and at the instigation of my esteemed co-contributor, there is a weekly election on CH to decide on our past and present County players of choice - starting, logically enough, with those whose surnames begin with A. Watch this space as results are announced in future issues of County Life, or, better still, join the forum and vote yourselves!
Sandy - you’re on...

Thanks Maccy and welcome to the first of two ‘Battles of the Hatters’ taking place this month! As my wing man rightly pointed out, with him being away this week it falls on me to write about the football side of matters. Strap yourselves in folks...
On Tuesday we faced a tough Hereford side and, unfortunately, again found ourselves losing by one late goal despite going in front courtesy of Adnan Cirak’s first for the club and later coming from behind thanks to James Tunnicliffe.
Today we welcome Luton and their new Manager, John Still, who will be keen to stop a poor run which has seen them pick up just two points in February and fail to win in the league since hammering Barrow 6-1 at the start of the year.
Elsewhere, everyone at CHHQ would like to thank Rob Clare for his services to the club as both a player and, until this week, Commercial Manager. Rob made nearly 200 appearances for County including playing every minute of our record-breaking ‘nine games in a row without conceding’ run in 2007.
Since returning as Commercial Manager in 2010, he has been instrumental in bringing much needed business to EP and, as far as CH is concerned, helping organise our sponsorship of Danny O’Donnell and Matty Mainwaring, as well as our brick which now features proudly on the County Wall.
Whatever the future holds, everyone at County Heaven wishes you all the best!
