I was always a bit concerned about his lack of pace. Hopefully he will be able to compensate

Can't remember him: High turnover of players is a bit hard to follow from abroad. Pleased that the reaction seems so positive. Are we now overloaded with left-sided defenders? Cartwright / Hampson to leave?

Solid signing, that. Plus, having already played for us, he won't need time to settle and will know just what the fans expect.
Good signing, Jim.

Playing a back 3(or 5) as we did for plenty of games last season would see something like: Minihan, Smalley, Clarke, O'Halloran and Hampson with the competition/options coming from Cartwright and Duxbury. It would certainly look like there's no natural cover for Minihan though on the right. Smalley was a RB previously and Dux played a small part there in 1 (?) game... and maybe there's even a youth option... but as it stands we certainly look to have less of an option on the right. Of course, it'll all be calculated by the main man as to what's needed and where's best to spend so we'll see how it all pans out. The key will just be that attacking line and the scoring of goals!

Mixed thoughts on this... when he's good he's reall rather good but he lacked some pace (guessing off days). He does fight for the cause though. Not sure why he left County in the first place....I dont think he was let go.

Wasn't he part of the great Neil Young clear out that worked so well?

Yes - he did leave at that time. Can't quite remember, though, whether he was effectively fixed up at Salford by the time NY's cull was announced?
Glad to see him back, though. Back-three formations appear here to stay, and he will be an integral part of those when they get deployed. Will also enjoy re-introducing my made-up 'Beckenbauer-esque' word into match-day tweets, if he goes on one of his trademark forays upfield!

Very polite too! I checked his twitter after he said he was delighted to be back, but his twitter bio still said he was a Salford player. I pointed it out with a welcome and he replied after changing it with a friendly message. Winning the hearts and minds!!

Yes - he's a smashing bloke. I used to see him around campus while he was at Salford University studying for his Physiotherapy degree, and he always had time for a few words.

MASSIVE steps backwards in my opinion!! Then again we are a selling part time club so our hopes will more often be crushed more than not!

f*** all these bank-rolled hobby clubs, Jim will do it his way and in the long term we'll get there and be better for it.

Really sorry to see him go but can't really blame him for wanting to go full time just wish it had been to a different club hopefully his release clause was a decent amount of money and I wish him all the luck with his new club. Jim will move on and improve our fortunes in that I have no doubts.
