Afternoon everyone!
What can I say about the magic of the FA Cup that hasn’t been said already? The excitement, the anticipation, the general buzz around the ground. The potential upset from a ‘giant killer’ (although not today, please). The replay between a minnow and Premier League side, shown live from some poky little ground where the commentators feel the need to refer to the pitch being a ‘leveller’ every five minutes. Jumpers for goalposts. Isn’t it? Marvellous.
Meanwhile, here’s a little teaser for you. What have Robert Earnshaw, Dean Whitehead, Sylvain Legwinski and our very own Alun Armstrong got in common? If you think you know, why not pop along to County Heaven and see if you’re right. Every week I run a quiz for our members and those four players were the answers to the last quiz – but can you work out what links them together? Maccy Junior (who’s 8 years old) got it right before his Dad (and most of County Heaven, by the looks of things), so come and have a go if you think you’re smart enough!
Right, over to you Maccy. Have you stopped sulking yet about being beaten by your son?!

S’alright, Sandy...I’m well used to getting out-thought by my kiddies.
So, let’s at least be thankful that County didn’t follow my poor example last weekend when up against...erm, ‘Kiddy’! How good it was to see us successfully defend a one-goal lead against the Harriers, in a match that was a tremendous advert for BSP football - and will surely have impressed any casual visitors taking in the EP experience, either as part of Non-League Day or for want of a game to watch during the Premiership and Championship break.
That makes it two Saturday victories out of two in October so far. Can the Hatters achieve the hat-trick today?!
Well, our near-neighbours from Stalybridge will surely have travelled down the M60 with other ideas. And, of course, they can boast of some pretty recent ‘previous’, having ultimately triumphed over the course of two FA Trophy matches against County less than a year ago...with a certain Craig Hobson - bless him - making a key contribution towards Celtic’s win. County, however, have a very different look about them these days. Indeed, of the starting line-up from that sub-zero December night at Bower Fold, only one player - Andy Halls - is a current EP regular.
Here’s to a great cup-tie. And, hopefully, revenge!
Enjoy the game.
