Morning all.
Ok, if this works, it could be a lot of fun (I hope). It might also take us up to Christmas...!
The first part of this quiz will run for 5 weeks, and will take the usual format of there being five former County players to guess, with one clue per day. Easy.
Rather than points, however, you will be trying to gather funds with which to build a fantasy 5-a-side team, and we will then have a knock-out tournament to find our overall winner.
If you guess that week’s player correctly on Monday, you get £10m to spend on your team, Tuesday £7m, Wednesday £5m, Thursday £3m and Friday £1m.
There is also a County-related link between the players (hint: focus on their initials) – guess this in Week 1 and you get a bonus £10m to spend, Week 2 its £7m and so on, as above.
There is therefore a maximum of £60m to spend on your squad of 5 players. More than enough!
In Week 6, you will be able to select your team. You do not need to spend all of the funds you have amassed if you do not need to. You will also need to come up with a team name which must feature your County Heaven moniker.
I’ll be using the official Premier League Fantasy Football site (and the valuations of players at that point in time). I’ll either post a link to the player list or try to cut and paste it onto here so you can make your selections. You will need to send me your squad in private via PM (so I can check you’ve not over spent!) and will need to purchase one goalkeeper and four outfield players – at least one in each position. As such, you could play a 2-1-1, 1-2-1, or 1-1-2 formation. I’ll go through this all again at the start of Week 6, and will explain the points scoring system for anyone not familiar with the FFL website.
Everyone will then be drawn against each other in a knock-out tournament, with the opening fixtures to be announced at the start of Week 7. The points will be based on the Premier League fixtures from the first Saturday at the end of Week 7). No transfers will be allowed, so if any of your players get injured, banned, or simply aren’t played once your squad is amassed, tough!
Since I’m unlikely to get 16 players to make the tournament numbers nice and easy, I’ve worked out a system for ensuring we get down to a quarter-finals, semi-finals and final set up (I hope) when the time comes.
Anyway, I’ll run through the tournament rules again at the start of Week 6 - in the meantime, let’s get started!
