I almost liked that Macca but then thought I really don’t like it! How has Britain reduced itself to this mess?

Not to worry folks. Rumour has it that in the event of either Johnson or Isaac forcing a no deal brexit there are enough Tories prepared to vote against their own government and bring it down thereby forcing a general election. At which point we'll have the exciting choice between a party looking increasingly like a quasi religious doomsday cult hell bent on taking the rest of us with them...or the Labour Party led by weirdy beardy little Jeremy who's political ideas have yet to emerge from the '70's who, along with those pulling his strings, McCluskey and Milne, two unabashed Marxists who take the entirely reasonable Leninist view that if it gets bad enough people are bound to vote for the socialists. I mean, just wtf could go wrong?

Ann Widdecombe's EU slavery remarks branded as 'disgusting'Brexit Party MEP Ann Widdecombe has been criticised for comparing the UK leaving the EU to "slaves" rising up "against their owners".www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-48869520Jesus f***ing wept.

Ms Widdecombe, one of six MEPs representing the South West of England, said the process of choosing the leadership of the EU had convinced her that "the best thing for Britain is to leave here as soon as possible". And yet apparently she has nothing to say about the fact that the next Prime Minister of this country is about to be chosen by approximately 120,000 members of the Tory Party. Members who are almost exclusively well to do, frequently retired, generally from the wealthy central southern counties of Britain and almost uniformly share her bigoted pig ignorance. She is well known for her opposition to abortion and extending equality before the law to the LGBT community as well as a belief in the maintenance of the blasphemy laws.
With Farage recently claiming disgust at the undermining of the sovereignty of the "ancient states of Europe" we really do seem to be heading towards a climate where the shouty proclamation of your pig ignorance is seen as some kind of badge of honour and your opponents possession of fact based knowledge is to be used as a stick with which to beat them.

i would like to announce, with some horror and self-disgust, that i am even more firmly in the jeremy hunt camp after watching that debate. he was pretty awful, but the evasive, hectoring, blustering albino on the other side makes my skin not just crawl (like hunt), but slough off in a disgusted evacuation.
just as bad is the fact that the studio audience appeared to have drunk the kool aid, given how much applause he got in comparison to hunt. "he's being rude. isn't he funny?" is not the correct response in approving a prime minister.

"he's being rude. isn't he funny?" is not the correct response in approving a prime minister. If you consider the sequence of events since 2016, it doesn't matter a stuff who you or I support mate. We have no say, none at all. 2016 referendum. Leave wins but only very marginally. What is now forgotten is that all the groups promoting the Leave campaign included commitments to the Single Market, the Customs Union, securing a trade deal, and increased funding for public services. Within hours of the result being announced Theresa May instantly dismisses SM/CU option with her pointless jingoistic red lines, thus clearly refusing to broker any compromise between Remain and Leave camps. Assuming she'll win a landslide May calls a snap General Election and instead loses her majority. Result? The Tories still behave like they won a landslide and refuse to countenance compromise. During the 2019 local elections the Tory Party loses 1330 seats! The biggest gainers were the pro-Remain Lib Dems, increasing their seat count by 705. Result? The Tories interpret it as a request to pursue a Hard Brexit. During the 2019 European elections. Tory Party loses nearly all its votes to a single-issue protest party and comes in fifth behind the Lib Dems, Labour and the Green Party with the result that May resigns and the Tories line up a bunch of extremists to replace her. Extremists who have absolutely no intention of reconciling the Leave and Remain vote, no intention of reaching a compromise with Brussels, and increasingly cosying up to Donald Trump and allowing the country's immediate future to be determined by a largely southern, wholly wealthy, 50% retired, 71% male electorate comprising significantly less than 1% of the population, while still resisting any calls for another election or referendum. Hunt? Johnson? Who cares? They are being driven by the small group of extremists known as the ERG who have hijacked a marginal referendum vote for their own ends and who have ignored every public call for them to stop what they're doing. The prospect of being like Norway as a member of the EEA, has turned into being one of imposing some kind of ultra-deregulated 51st-state in the Republican mould, run by a vacuous, lying, shallow, manipulative charlatan a la Trump, happy to see the economy go down the pan and Scotland and Northern Ireland break away from the Union. And who are the ERG exactly? A group of right wing extremists who have been fighting all attempts to force then to provide evidence of their "research". This is important, because they have been in receipt of public money to finance it and who have finally been forced to comply by a recent legal judgement. A party within a party, they have their own organisation entirely independent of the Tory Party financed, like the leave campaign, by money with a very opaque provenance and yet they still misrepresent themselves as the upholders of 'the will of the British people'.

it's a painful summary. i have felt ever more powerless politically. everything i vote for loses. large parts of the electorate lap it up. the fact there's loads of people who like that childcatcher victorian toff rees-mogg and then buy into the ERG's rhetoric is just bewildering. every time i think it's reached its nadir, i realise i'm just naive.

And just to compound the sense of injustice the Labour Party is being led, and I use that word in its loosest possible sense, by a cabal of incompetent f**kwits who have repeatedly failed to recognise that the anti-Semitism in the party needs to be addressed head on, the culprits identified and kicked out, in other words managed before it becomes a crisis...oh....sh*t, too late, it's already become a crisis. It's absolutely beyond f***ing belief that on a day that Johnson is being slaughtered by his own MP's for his appalling attitude towards the British Ambassador to the US, an attitude that seems to have led directly to his resignation, an attitude that includes making infantile jokes about it in public, the Labour Party are blaming the BBC for highlighting the extent of anti-Semitism within the Party. Please Corbyn, do us us all a favour and f*** off, f*** right off and take Milne, McCluskey and Murphy back into the political wilderness from whence you came before you drag the entire party down to your level.
