“Quite a bit of McKnight’s talk took some unravelling. “Implemented fundamentals are required at a football club of which success is a by-product,” he said, for example. And he was none too diplomatic. “Fans say to me ‘where will we finish next season?’ and I tell them ‘that’s the wrong question to ask’...” But the application of some rationale and intellect to the impulsive, anti-intellectual ways of old-school football certainly made sense, even though McKnight’s utter conviction that he is right, and that very many football chief executives have got it wrong, made you feel that this man was either going to be very famous, or just infamous, in the town.”
His work took a lot of unraveling too

Another one posted on MB that brings a shudder whenever I think about it: tony-evans.tumblr.com/post/79456794795/setting-the-record-straight-about-my-stockportTony Evans aside, Snape was one constant that was there before and after him that should never have got anywhere near the club. I don't know who it was that stopped Phil Brennan getting into EP a few years back, but Snape should be barred for life - a horrible piece of work.

I guess with Evans we will never know what might have been. Agreed on Snape

I guess with Evans we will never know what might have been. I don't think we'll ever know the truth about what went on there, Duds, but the man who was there before and after was responsible for a hell of a lot worse later on - so it does make you wonder. Didi was absolutely the wrong man, though, of that I have no doubt, but he did walk away and allow Jim to come in and keep us up when he could have just hung around for the sack and subsequent pay off - he should take some considerable credit for that. It should have been given to Ray Mathias, who had worked tirelessly to try to keep us up the season before - he'd earned his chance in my opinion.

"implemented fundamentals are required at a football club of which success is a by-product" oh f*** off mate. he sounds like a particularly pompous sixth form tory boy trying to show off his education.
and "mcknight used his european networks to sign players he felt met stockport's new technical requirements: out of contract swedish striker adnan cirak..."
i'd completely forgotten about mcknight but reading that i've got a twisted ragey knot in my chest again. like with bo-jo, it would kind of be amusing to look in from the outside at the slo-mo car crash that followed his arrival.

f***ing hell gazz. don't make me have an aneurysm.
tony evans "I profiled the club in the media. Results were up, everybody was talking about them. There was a real feel good factor about the club"
results were up? under didi hammann?!?
and future plans to let an ex-premier league player pay to earn his wings with us? see dietmar hammann above. absolute fantasist.
"Anyone released from any of those clubs at 16 would automatically be offered a place, because we would deem them good enough."
so we had javan vidal (manchester city youth product), richie partridge (liverpool youth product), courtney meppen-walters (city youth product), just for starters. they're in my all-time county top ten, obviously.
i appreciate the reference to crewe has taken a sourer twist in hindsight, but again, like with mcknight, this is all just the ravings of a fantasist. we'll never know what might have been duds, but from that deluded interview, i suspect that there might be houses on both sides of hardcastle road now...
