Whilst my own personal vote would go to the very excellent 'Jimmy Eat World' (please just give the song '23' a listen and enjoy the next 7 or so minutes of your respective lives...) here are your starters for Week J. Musical amuse bouches if you will...
Jackson, Michael Jam, The James Jamiroquai Joy Division

Although The Jam were fantastic, it's James for me, brilliant band.
Vote changed, see my next post.

Tough one between the Jam, Joy Division and James. I think I'm gonna go with The Jam but could've easily gone either way!

Sorry chaps, I must have used an old version of my list as James were meant to be included in place of Elton John. I've amended the shortlist now.

Jedward
is not my pick.
A mention for Elton John, but only for 'Your Song' & 'Tiny Dancer'.
Jefferson Airplane for me this week, pop pickers.

Toughest week yet. Both The Jam and Joy Division were an essential part of growing up for me, and, at one stage, there were hardly any records from acts other than those two on my turntable.
A little later on, James weren't too far behind - and nor were The Jesus and Mary Chain.
I am really torn here (still thinking about Natalie Imbrugli-woogly from last week doesn't help...!), but, on the basis of a slightly more prolific output, and my having seen two blistering gigs of theirs in Brighton and Bridlington, will go for The Jam... just.

And, on the strength of plumping for The Jam, have just now pre-ordered the forthcoming Deluxe Edition of their classic Setting Sons.
I now feel officially comfortable with my choice!

Some J's
Jamie Says - a pretty good guitary band The Joy Formidable - Welsh rockers. Their second single has one of the best song titles ever: My Beerdrunk Soul is Sadder than a Hundred Dead Christmas Trees Jet - even better if you can get beyond Are you Gonna be my Girl
I do enjoy a bit of Jack Johnson when the mood takes. Especially his earlier stuff.
Joy Division, historically, are such an important band - but they were a bit before my time.
So it's James for me this week. Some of their later albums ('the morning after' and 'the night before') were a bit average, but the early stuff is some of my favourite music. Strip Mine, Stutter and Gold Mother were brilliant. I recently purchased the Village Fire: Five Offerings from James EP which I've been after for about 25 years - good things come to he who waits.

You know something, I've just sat here and compared the number of songs I like by the Jam against those that I like by James, and as a result I'm changing my vote.
Scratch my initial vote, I vote for The Jam, with an honourable mention for Tim Booth's boys.
Incidentally, if anyone would like a link to a fantastic Jam Megamix Mp3, let me know and I'll PM you the download link.

Norah Jones, Elton John, Jefferson Airplane and Billy Joel get a nod of approval but, in particular for the brilliant Night And Day, it's got to be Joe Jackson for me.
