great post gazz.
you can't condone people throwing missiles at football, but mullen getting a pie right on the side of his head in front of the EP dugouts was a genuine piece of county magic.
we'd finished about 12 points above them, and i think we may have had the fair play record that season. although john francis could (should given elleray's later card happiness?) have been sent off, their dangerman upfront going off injured so early, and us going 1-0 up against a side we'd been better than during the season...meant it had to be our day.
the wallace one looks the more plausible sending off on the video. fouled him, pushed him down, and then allegedly spat at him. quickly changed the mood around us. david eyres scored a brilliant goal to be fair, then in the second half...well beaumont went into a tackle. i thought it was more round the side than from behind. never, ever a straight red. not even now. and then that bobbly shitter of a winner with the deflection giving john keeley no chance.
i knew the game was up for that squad, and that was why it was so hard seeing them dejected at the end. i assumed both kev and preecey would be off, and although it was only the latter that summer, kev himself went early the following year. awful day. and to burnley too. extremely glad that mcminn was bullied by both the popside and then even the main stand in his next EP appearance. hard to believe that mike wallace went absolutely mental for a few seconds without any provocation.

Another excellent post, mate.
Couldn't believe they did Plymouth, got a horrible feeling in my gut when I knew it was them and us in the final, and my thoughts were that having denied them the Autoglass final in '92 it was inevitable they'd get their revenge.
Elwood giving that interview in the week running up to the final didn't help, where I'm sure he said something along the lines of us not being able to afford to go up, or did I dream that?
Also remember having my phone line repaired by an Aussie BT engineer that same week running up to the big day, who without even knowing I was a County supporter said in his broad down under accent:"Do or die for the County this weekend, mate!"
It was then I started to get nervous about our chances.
Regarding Wallace, I don't think I even saw him booked before that day, so that show of aggression was totally out of character for him too. McMinn was definitely sent out to wind us up, but Karma got him in the end.
Harsh thing to say? Given that it was that defeat that killed Danny's spirit it's not nearly f**king harsh enough. The little man was never the same after that, he deserved that Wembley win, and those gobsh*tes stole it from him.
b*st*rds.
